How do I find accuracy in any stat calculation now? The numbers are all wrong

Is the fact that when I equip things, that stats don't result in the way you would expect via smiple math, have something to do with the whole time space continuum rip and tear that is the One Tamriel balancing system? I just went to equip an item that gives +269 magic as a base, and then +800 for a bonus vs. the same slot and item type (light armor) that offers +233 magic and no bonus. My total magic did not go up 833, it went up 43. Firstly, 269-233 is 36.. where is that 43 from ; and furthermore where did the +800 go?

Meanwhile, I equipped I have 11382 stamina. I then equipped an item that has +666 stamina and no bonuses. My stamina went from 11382 to 12224. That's not a difference of 666.

There is many percentage bonuses around every stat is the game that You have to include. It's simple math but You need to remember all variables.

If You want answers for things You're wondering above You'll need to give more details.

If the suggestion is that there are hidden values that result in the numbers not adding up accurately, then that is one thing to consider but A) Why doesn't the game then present that information properly or clearly and B ) How can the difference between two items be over 800 magic and yet only shows up as a difference of 43?

I don't really care what background /under the hood calculations go on. If I open my character sheet and equip an item that's meant to offer +800 of a stat, I expect it to show up as 800 more than what I have, or at least a scaled version of that 800.

I can't believe everyone goes around with the understanding and acceptance that their just throwing items on as long as they offer +more than the item they previously had. How can you min max with specifics if nothing is accurate? Or why should I change an equipped item if the one that by all accounts is noticeably better inherently, actually turns out to be only marginally better when I use it?

The stats you see on items are the actual item stats. What you get when you equip it, however, depends on many things:
    • Passives
    • Buffs
    • CPs
    • Slotted Skills
    • For Set Items: Quality/Level of Other Set Items

If you want more detail on the stats calculation you can see our build editor but a warning that the calculation details get complicated. You can click/expand on any of the computed stats on the right hand side of the page to view the exact calculation and base inputs involved.

Also what's your level? The game buffs your stats the lower you are. Maybe that's what's messing it up?

    Character in question is :
    • Level 34 Dark Knight.
    • Psssives : I had Innerlight (passive/slotted) and no food.
    • All my points are distributed into magic. I have no CP
    • I wear a mix of light (Mother's Sorrow and Prayer set , with an odd heavy armor in there). My jewellery is also Mother's Sorrow.

    My skills are:
Burning Embers, Blockade of Fire, Engulfing Flames Entropy, Inner Light, Standard
Regeneration, Burning Talons, Molten Armaments, Weakness to Elements, Coagulating Blood, Standard

To be clear, I am not looking for an in-depth explanation of how the mechanics work and how to max the most of them. Rather I simply want to know, is it expected in this game that when you equip items, it may not give you an 'exact' math result like you would expect?

If so, then OK, then I can start asking the question later, 'how does it all work?' Which would be interesting because as per my example, which is truthful, I have two items that are very similar, except one offers a magic bonus of +888 and the game indicates I qualify for that bonus. Yet when I equip the item, it is like the bonus is not applied. One might rebuttal that maybe the better question is, 'are set bonuses working properly?' which I considered, but then other things didn't make sense like how I can equip an item that gives +666 stamina, and my build gains over 1000 stamina instead?!?!?

At the moment, I figure I must have done something wrong with my character build! If the issue is more how the game represents the results/calculations, then I can stop pulling my hair out and instead, just mumble something about a poor game design.

    Thanks

You are level 34 so you are battled leveled up to cp160, so your stats are always going to be screwy. Also, if a item is below your level it isn't going to be as effective.

If your trying to min/max, wait til CP160, the game is way too easy to worry about it now.

And if you plan on min/maxing just follow the meta.

One must not stray from the meta.

    Thank you.

Note that the item in question is level 34 as well, and even if it was only level 30, as stated, it's as if I got 0 from the set bonus.

Yes the meta..well I didn't actually want to concern myself with it for some time. It's just so strange to me that I can put on an item that clearly states it intent, and then the results come out completely 'screwy'

Are we meant to wait until a certain level (cp160) in order for things to add up properly?
Like has no one else noticed how awfully bad the system is?

Things are definitely more complicated at lower levels but the only thing you lose in complexity at CP160 is the level autoscaling. The item stats you see on the item will be modified by all your bonuses once you equip it.

As for how "bad" the system is I can really only think of two options to fix it:
    1. A dead simple stat mechanic (just add things up, no bonuses on anything, no hard/soft caps)
    2. Item tooltips display exactly what they would give you when equipped.

I don't think #1 is an option for any game that isn't a simple browser/mobile. #2 is technically already in the game to a certain extent (at least on PC). When you hover over an item tooltip with your equipment sheet open the changes to your stats will be displayed.
