Crafters for Hire?

I finally got a character to Champion status last week, am at CP 66 now, and have been looking into the kind of sets I want to try out once I hit CP 160. And HOLY CRAP is crafting difficult to get into. I'm a level 23 Blacksmith with this character, can't even craft items for my own level range, even though I haven't ever sold weapons or armour unless they're ornate, choosing to decon for the inspiration instead. On top of that level grind I see there are trait count requirements for all the decent sets that will take... Talos knows how long to reach. 9 trait requirement sets just seem terrifyingly daunting. And then I read a guide that points out, quite sensibly, that you should have a one-crafter-does-all approach since motifs aren't account bound. So there goes my *** idea of having one character doing Blacksmithing, a second doing Tailoring, and a third doing Woodwork. I'm just going to stick to Provisioning instead...

So!

How easy is it to find crafters for hire in-game? What sort of prices should I expect them to charge? I've always been excited to use the Morkuldin set for how awesome the floating sword is, but given it's a 9-trait requirement set... that might be insanely rare to find someone who can craft that for me, especially at an affordable price? I feel like the full game is finally opening up to me and it's all a little daunting

Heya! It's pretty easy during peak hours. Go to a major city and ask for a 9-trait crafter. There are quite a few of us in game.

As for how much we charge, that gets into specifics.

What kind of style do you want? If it's ebony, expect to pay through the nose. Some people put a surcharge for rarer styles(And when Akaviri pages go for 100k, there's a reason).

Do you have matts? If someone asks me to use my own matts, I tend to put an extra charge on top of what I pay for the hassle, because I don't keep 1000 ancestor silk in my bags.

Are you asking for multiple sets?

If you have the matts, including style stones, you can expect to pay between 2-5k per piece if you want an out-of-the way set and rarer style.

Thanks! Good to know they aren't too rare. That makes me feel better about just focusing on Provisioning.

Regarding styles I'm not 100% sure yet. Is there a good website for previewing how the different styles look? I definitely plan on providing the mats to make it as easy as possible for the crafter

I was thinking about Morkuldin set paired with Sword-Singer (world drop set) for my StamSorc for now. I'm a casual player, so more excited about a magic floating sword following me around in battle than min/maxing for vet trials

Also if you belong to any guilds, check whether the guild or guilds have crafters. If a guildmate wants gear, and they have the mats, I don't charge anything. Two exceptions; if they want nirnhoned, they provide the nirn, and if they want a rare style that needs a special style mat, they give me that. I'll never get feathers, scutes, or fangs, for instance.

Thanks guys! Medium Grim Harlequin looks pretty amazing (I keep helms hidden). Is that considered a rarer style?

If you're in a guild, check to see if your guild has a crafter. Sometimes they will craft for guildies for free, especially if you have the mats.

Grim Harlequin was a crownstore only motif. Unfortunately the style mat, "grinstone" doesn't drop in game, so any crafter who makes it for you would need a mimic stone to make it. Or you might be able to find grinstone for sale, if anyone used mimic stones to make items then deconned them for a chance at a style mat.

ZoS missed a golden opportunity to integrate craft sales into the master writ system. We make all this gear for fictional NPC's (yeah I said fictional NPC's...), we could be making it for people who need it. Would have been a gold sink if paying crafters in vouchers and taking gold from buyers.

Not in any guilds. They've always confused me with some having sales requirements, so I just ignored them. Always hated the massively over-complicated trade system in this game, and I definitely don't feel like visiting hundreds of trade stands to search them all individually for the style mats.

If I buy my own mimic stones, is it possible for the crafter to use them? Presumably that's not possible to avoid buying mats on the store and selling them for in-game gold?

No, crownstore items are bound to the buyer's account.

I'm not talking about trade guilds. I am currently in 4 guilds; mostly pve oriented. None of them have any requirements other than logging in at least once a week. One has optional, voluntary raffles. Two of them usually have a trader, but no required dues or sales. I'm one of the crafters for all of the guilds. I make gear for guildies for free. If its under the cp160 level I usually don't even ask for mats. CP160 I ask for the mats. I make research items for free, although I do ask for the nirn for nirnhoned items. Rng gremlins in Craglorn usually hate me. If you want to try a guild with no requirements, let me know, and I can send you an invite.

There are crafting guilds that don't have a sales requirement, though so long as you put up a bit every week most of the better trade guilds I've been in have low reqs. Regarding the kiosks, Stormhaven, Mournhold and Raw'lkha have a ton of full traders.

Shame about not being able to give mimic stones to crafters, but I can completely understand why. Looks like this anniversary event is a good time to stock up on rarer style mats though! I think grinstones can turn up in daily quest boxes?

Yeah, I work as an ecologist which can get really hectic over summer, and I can easily go weeks or even months without logging in. If I ever found a guild it would have to be super casual. Just seems easier to go without since most of them want some kind of sign of commitment.

    That's a pretty cool job :)

And most crafting/social guilds I know are really cool about it so long as you tell them in advance. If you're on PC/NA poke at me, I can make that if you provide matts + tip for the stones if you can't find them.

crafting is a huge investment with poor returns IMHO. Still necessary, and I respect crafters, but they need to be given some real value for the investment.

Transmog, re-leveling gear (increasing or decreasing), etc. MAKE CRAFTING GREAT AGAIN.

Yeah, if you need to be gone for RL issues, my gms would have no problem with it. You just need to let them know.

I can craft what you want, if you want it. Let me know.

Morkuldin's is fun once you get used to the ghost sword popping up.

Yeah I'm confused about the lack of transmog. Surely that would further boost Motif sales on the store as well? If I could convert my equipped items to any style my character knows, I'd be more inclined to collect the different styles.

That would be awesome if you could. Depends if you're PC EU like me  And I'd happily pay for the service and provide mats wherever possible.
