DB reputation grind ... is this furreal?

Just now getting around to clearing out some of the stuff thats been sitting in my quest log forever ...

Finished up Imperial City, figured I'd start on DB then TG, and then eventually Wrothgar stuff.

So I'm going through the quests for DB and noticed there are rank requirements to continue the line - these requirements are now growing ever more cumbersome the further along I go.
Need at least rank 8 to finish them all and currently on rank 4. I'm doing these repeatable murder quests and seeing the rep bar move about as slow as the mages guild rep bar. Am I to assume I'm going to have to simply stab half of Tamriel in the face a mind numbing number of times to progress these quests? Is there a faster way to gain rep? Is this really what the (guild) DLC boils down to? And is the Thieves Guild stuff just as soul crushingly repetitive?

Just want my damn robe already. How long does this go on?

The daily's is what gives it the most xp, so if you just want to take it a bit slow then just keep up with the daily sacrament each one gives like 60% xp into the next tier.

Completed one Sacrament ... guess I need to wait till tomorrow to do another. These kill quests really give this little tiny bit of rep tho? Doing some repeatables with the daily sacrament every day means ... it'll take me like 8-10 days to finish this?

Do you get rep for completing main quest objectives? Like if I do the main quest at rank 5 - then a daily sacrament - will that get me to rank 6 or close, etc... ?

Keep abandoning them until you get the spree quests. They give twice the amount of rp. That plus sacrement done with a blue reward and the quest will require.....just 5 more regular killing quests.

Thieves guild is worse. Most of the jobs have you going to 3 different zones and the heists have a crap setup where every time you're seen you lose time off the already short clock...you can't even quietly kill people using the blade of woe.

    Orsinium is the best.

Orsinium is far and away the best quest line. Thieves guild is mind numbing and annoying. DB is fun in spots, but no where near as good as Orsinium.

I have to agree. The quest chain locked behind the "Skill Rank" was really unexpected and feels a bit clunky. It took me forever to figure out that to continue the Thieves guild quest chain I had level up the skill ranks, I kept thinking the quests were bugged. It does not feel intuitive, it feels (felt?) gated in a very artificial way.

It's not a matter of "learning to play," but I see you just needed an excuse to be condescending. It's a matter of the DB questline being painstakingly slow at leveling because you need to do a million stab-and-run quests that are annoying as heck. I did the DB questline as well (finished it all ...), and all those stab-and-runs were so tedious, and only gave you 5 reputation apiece as I remember.

Make medium armor of an set who let you sneak at running speed, put two points into the reduce detection in medium armor.
cp150 works nice. You now have to be unlucky to not get the reward.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Different strokes but I loved the TG quests. I didn't find the guild leveling all that challenging and hit 20 ledgermain in the process.

I actually wanted to play a thief character though so I did that DLC first. It did take some time but I enjoyed the theme.

I am starting the DB line once I hit 160 CP. 15 more cps to go :)

Dark Sacrament gives the most, and I think it gives more if you do it without being detected and escaping in time. But you can do a much larger number of small contracts every day. There's no limit on those, but I think there's an overall limit on how many repeatable quests you can do each day overall on a character, somewhere like 25-30 I think. DB was much quicker than TG in my case because the pickpocketing quests, which are the TG equivalent, are much more tedious than the assasinations - you have to pickpocket 3 items of a certain type or 10 overall in 3 zones. In practice I've incurred much larger bounties failing at pickpocketting (even fully hidden, with 75% chance) than murdering people :D

As for gear my recommendation is to run 7/7 medium to benefit from the sneak passives. There are 2 very good overland sets which you can use to sneak even better:

Night Terror: 3/5 pieces (Stormhaven overland drop)
Night Mother's Embrace 5/5 pieces (Deshaan overland drop)

When far from NPCs you can also cast retreating manouver and you will sneak much faster, almost as fast as running without major expedition.

I like the repeatable quests that send me all over the place. I don't usually just go to the location and finish the job; I take my time and do the other quests in the area if I haven't done them yet. I'm in no rush for the robe.

Sacraments though... ugh. I only have to do one and I'll have had enough of them for several days. Just too stressful thinking about getting caught, and I have the dark stalker passive plus all the bonuses from equipment to help me out.

I've done both quest lines and got all achievements in DB and all quest line & zone achievements in TG. Took me around 8-10 days to do it all. Not that tedious. And I'm not even on a particularly stealthy character. I play Stamina DK. Heists are much harder to do perfectly than Sacraments. But the former can be completely reset. Just abandon quest, take again and everything is just as before. If you leave a Sacrament however, the location will not completely reset, and you will most likely fail the condition for the bonus reward. Overall, after I learned how to avoid the NPCs and take the quickest routes, I was able to pull 70% perfect Sacraments but less than 30% perfect Heists. There are only a handful of maps, and the quests differ a bit, but once you get to know the locations, everything it's pretty straight forward.

Just for the record, this is no different from the Mages & Fighters Guild questlines. In them you also have to advance the skill line to get the next quest, but these two guilds simply have less quests (and the leveling there feels much slower than in TG or DB).

As for how to improve the skill line additionally, you also get skill line XP for getting guild related achievements (e.g. the Litany of Blood for the DB or Kari's Whishlist for TG).

Difference is that you level them by finding the books and killing daedra, something you would do anyway.
Undaunted quests you do for the pledges.
TG and DB is specific quests like leveling undaunted just with the daily delves quests.

Indeed they were. But it was still fresh and new when I did it. Lol, I've unfortunately come to accept that every dlc/event will suffer the wrath of the load screen boss till things settle.

No need to go to 3 zones for TG level grind. Just do the countess one. You will end up with everything you need and more in inventory. You just need to port to one major city to deliver and then port back to den.
