Treasure Hunter Passive

Okay, depending on who is running the trial there is an idea floating around that the person that opens the chest determines the loot quality, not on an individual basis. Usually I just go with the flow, but there seems to be a split on this truth or myth. Can anyone emphatically declare or deny whether this is the case.

In my experience, it does not...but I've been wrong before, back in '98.

Shouldn't trial locked chests follow the same logic as dungeon locked chests... As in no matter what set items are blue in normal, and purple in vet? I have never seen this deviate in dungeons, but not enough trials to know if it's different for them.

Trials and dungeons will drop set items at the same quality, always.

The thing is, how do I get still green set items in normal chests when I have the passive that should always bump it up? I've never seen a white set item drop before...

I've seen green loot frequency decrease with the passive to more blue as well as non set loot to more set loot.

My question is, the passive is on an individual basis correct? Not on who in the group opens it?

Any chest that can be shared by a group is in a dungeon or trial, thus it is irrelevant because those items will not change in quality.

If it is a chest that is opened by another player, and they do not loot it in the open world zones, then yes it is individual based. Whether your grouped or not.

I'm surprised by this as I've seen a decrease in green loot when running the passive, but it could be a coincidence even with a large sample size.

General rule of thumb for the item sets in dungeons and trials:

Normal Dungeons/Trial drop Blue Quality items.

Veteran Dungeons/Trial drop Purple Quality items.

Of course, but what about the Treasure Hunter passive affecting chest drop loot tables.

As in, upgrading green non set gear, to "set gear" for that level of trial dungeon? This seems to be a common belief.

Treasure Hunter only affects the quality, not the actual items. So there is no "upgrading" from a standard item, to a set item.

No. The passive increases the chance that a set item will appear in the chest. It was in the patch notes a while back. We had this same discussion awhile ago top which someone linked the patch notes containing this info.

Now whether or not your passive affects your group members chest contents is another question.

But the passive DOES increase the chance of a set item appearing in a chest.

This really does need to be answered once and for all as its either the most common myth or least understood truth.

If you have the Treasure Hunter Champion Passive, both the above chances and quality of an item will be improved.

Treasure hunter increases your chances of getting set items. I'm not sure about dungeon chests, but in overland with the passive anything over simple will give a set piece. That's likely where you're finding green stuff.

    @MissBizz

Do you have any information about how it affects loot in a chest, opened, while in a group? Does it matter who opens it or does the absence or presence of the treasure hunter passive apply to each individual as they loot the chest?

Nope, not a clue. Like I said, no idea if it does change dungeon (shared) chests at all or not.

reading the title - first thing that came to mind: SUCKS!!!

I do though have it on two characters, comes at a big cost to cp resource regen and cost reduction...

the whole reason I have it is for the improved chance at purple jewelry...unfortunately about 80% of the chests I come across our simple...and, I really haven't seen that big a difference at dolmens and world bosses...

I'm not going through all the patch notes to find it. It's on there somewhere if you are interested in looking for it.

At the time that patch was being implemented there was a discussion about whether it would increase chance to get sets and it did.

I believe it was around one Tamriel patch or maybe a little after.

Edit: just saw where someone linked the correct patch notes, it was one Tamriel.
