Dropped connections or unable to login using Xbox Live

I have either been unable to login or had my connection dropped as I load a character this morning. No issue with other games and Xbox Live status reports no issues with the service itself or with games. What gives? (That is a rhetorical question. This is an service issue report.)

If you receive an error stating "Login Error: Login Timeout" when trying to log into The Elder Scrolls Online, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

Check Service Alerts

Verify the servers are not undergoing scheduled maintenance.

If playing on console, you should also check the service alerts for your platform:
•Xbox Live Status
•PlayStation Network Service Status

If the ESO server or platform is undergoing maintenance or experiencing an outage, you will not be able to connect until it is resolved.

Power cycle and then test your network

If playing on console, you can reset your machine's IP by performing a hard reset. To do so, hold down the power button on the console itself and allow it to completely shut down. Once complete, turn off your modem or router as well and wait 10 minutes before turning all of your devices back on.

If playing on PC/Mac, you should also try turning off your modem or router for 10 minutes before rebooting.

When everything is back online, you should test the console's network connection.

Forward the game ports

To best access The Elder Scrolls Online you should configure you routers to open the following outbound ports:

All Platforms

•TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131
•TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507
•TCP / UDP Ports 24300 through 24331
•TCP Port 80
•TCP Port 433

In addition to the above, some more-specific ports are required for consoles.

Xbox One Ports
•UDP Port 88
•UDP Port 5060
•UDP Port 5062
•UDP Port 6250
•UDP Port 3478 through 3479
•UDP Ports 12000 through 32000
•UDP and TCP Port 53
•UDP and TCP Port 3074
•TCP Port 80
•TCP Port 433

Check for updates

If on PC/Mac, you should also ensure that the ESO Launcher has downloaded and installed all available updates before logging back in. If on console, we also recommend completely closing out the game and allowing the system to check for game updates before restarting the game itself.

Give ESO and Steam access to Mac

If playing ESO on Mac, you should ensure that both Steam and ESO have access to your machine by navigating to the Security & Privacy menu, selecting Privacy, then clicking on Accessibility and adding them to the list.

Reset the ProgramData folder

If playing on PC, you can also try resetting the ProgramData folder:
1.Close both ESO and the ESO Launcher.
2.Open the game's installation directory.
3.Open the folder named Launcher.
4.Inside the "Launcher" folder, there is a folder named "ProgramData".
5.Rename the "ProgramData" folder to "ProgramDataBackup".
6.Open the launcher and download update.
7.Click Play.

General connectivity issues can often be resolved by going through the steps in our Connectivity Troubleshooter.

You can also try pulling the power plug from the XB1 for a reset, the delete the ESO saved game data. Deleting the saved game data will not effect your character/progress as it is stored on the ESO server .....

Edit: Later today look for a major system update

May sound absolutely crazy but play ESO using a wireless connection vs wired.
Especially if you've done any port forwarding.

For whatever reason, my Xbox one works better in terms of not being dropped from this game for that error being wireless. It could be an Xbox hardware issue after a console update last November.....could be....IdK as other games are fine.....

I could easily argue it's ZOS' server and how it communicates as when I played on PC, oddly my connection experiences were also better wireless than wired.

I don't have an Xbox one S so it seems any non AC wireless connection for this game is best and if your NAT card supports AC, others would have to chime in

I thought I should come back and report that, yes, @ZOS_PeterT , I followed your steps but the problem still recurs, although, to be fair, sporadically. There are many sessions where I never encounter the problem. Yet not long after following your instructions I did encounter the problem described. So this problem is intermittent but ongoing. And, thanks to the other users who posted to this thread I know I am not alone.

I'm having the same issue. Login failed and all it does is load for a bit and then says connection to server timed out. I've done all of the suggestions I've seen on this thread and the only thing xbox live is having an issue with is purchase and content usage. It says all games are functioning as they're supposed to be. Ugh. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020507/uploads/FileUpload/be/a006b9bf6fc66c89a316169e327856.jpg" /><img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020507/uploads/FileUpload/be/a006b9bf6fc66c89a316169e327856.jpg" /><img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020507/uploads/FileUpload/be/a006b9bf6fc66c89a316169e327856.jpg" /><img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020507/uploads/FileUpload/be/a006b9bf6fc66c89a316169e327856.jpg" />
