Grinding Skyreach Catacombs with Magsorc

I'm looking to get my account up to the max CP and with the double exp event coming out tomorrow I was wondering if anyone had a good build for grinding in skyreach catacombs. I have a decent one that keeps me alive but nothing amazing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I hear it's only a 2 hour event. Drink Ambrosia potions, buy xp scrolls, get an all purple training gear set? Then go find a great xp farming spot?

You need to to team up with a Templar with repentance. Just a set of 5 seducer 3 Magnus with all training will be more than fine. Enjoy.

The XP bonus buff lasts for 2 hours. The event lasts almost 2 weeks.

You don't need any resource management sets. Make purple Julianos training gear use Willpower jewelry with spellpower enchants make (lightning)staves with training trait. Fill up with whatever trainig gear you have.(5 light, 1 medium 1 heavy)

Surge is completely sufficient for keeping you alive ...
When your Aoe Dots are up (Lightning form+ Blockade+ Liquid+ Pet) and youre charging lightning heavy attacks there is not much left which is able to kill you.

The destruction staff passives are completely sufficient for skyreach grind ressource management.
In skyreach you can build up ultimate damn fast. I had multiple Destroultis active at the same time on a templar. So don't hesitate to use them.
move out of red circles and be aware that those ghosts can fear you.

To add to this, because of the fears Stam management can be important but with his fiancé being a Templar, repentance solves that.

If you need a shield. At most, run harness magic for survivability, it's better than hardened in this situation since it also offer sustain

What I do:


Purple Julianos 5 pc. All training - all mag
2 pc ilambris
3 pc. moondancer or Aether or Willpower

whatever staffs you have.

exp pots.


front bar: inferno

Pulsar, hardened ward, streak, bound aegis, inner light - shooting star

back bar: lightning

ele bockade, liquid lightning, power surge, bound aegis, inner light - destro ulti


power surge - ward up

from entrance - run right shooting at and grouping up mobs - into the next room, up the stairs, to the right, around the corner -

ward up - power surge - streak through the hoarde of enemies - ele blockade / liquid lightning - pulsar spam - streak to the other side of the pile - ward - surge - dots - pulsar spam.

repeat until dead.


Then go back to entrance room - go to the other side (left from the door) Group up all mobs - up the stairs - around the bend -
ward - surge - streak through the pile - Dots down - pulsar spam - streak through again - ward - dots - pulsar spam.

Then go grab the rest - up the stairs past the chest - around the corner - grab them all up - streak through the approaching hoarde - ward -surge - dots - pulsar spam - streak - ward - dots - pulsar spam.

Use the same strategy for the chest event.


3 big pulls - chest event - then run/streak out and reset.


Can do a run in under 5 minutes with good execution.

Can be done in 2 big pulls + chest, rather than 3, but I find with 2 pulls you get more lag and DC's so I just do 3 pulls.

Hardened Ward is better for this. You will not run out of magic on these pulls due to the arcane well passive. You will see your mag bar just constantly filling up- in practical terms you have unlimited magicka when you're aoe-killing groups this large. So you don't need mag return from Harness - and Hardened Ward is a much bigger shield which you will need combined with streak for when you get bogged down in the pile and stuck in stacked black circles.

Surge is not sufficient for keeping you alive if you're using the pulsar spam method. You will need a ward.

I've done it several times with Julianos, Willpower, and Illambris before I got my BSW and MD, so it's very do-able. Just make sure to keep up your power surge and, most importantly, shields, especially if you plan on doing the Ancient Chest (which I highly recommend you do).

EDIT: I also slotted streak so I could keep pulling large mobs despite their "slowing" ground effects.

I recommend 5 skills and a lightning staff. Equip DPS gear with training traits (julianos, etc.). All skills can actually be on your back bar, leaving you free to level what ever you want on your front bar. I don't like pets for grinding as they tend to mess up your pulls. Not the worst idea to put your shield and inner light on front bar, but you can get away without IL and a back bar shield.

Skills needed: power surge, ward, boundless storm, blockade, liquid lightning.

Keep up power surge and boundless at all times (heals, spell power, speed, defense) Cast ward when below about 50% health. Round up adds with light attacks. Then stand your ground and drop Blockade and LL and do three full heavys with a lightning staff. Rinse and repeat. You shouldn't need any help, but templars make good grind buddies.

Don't use pulsar. The resource managment issues will slow you down. Your lighting staff is free and frankly better AOE DPS.

My lightning pet build does fine. The chest fights are insane, so many adds i had 3 atronachs out at one time lol
