Master Crafting Writs not dropping

josephhigleyb14_ESO
I have now done 70 highest tier crafting writs on 1 character since the homestead update and I have received 0 master writs. Meanwhile my friend has gotten 7 in the same time frame. Granted they've done a few more master writs than me cause I was finishing leveling my other crafts to 50. We have approximately the same crafting achievement completion, similar motif completion and I have much more researched than she does in blacksmithing. Then I read about people that are already on their 100th master writ and I wonder what is wrong with my drop rate, granted they have 8 characters and their completion is probably a little more than mine.

Here's my overall crafting completion:
Enchanting:
all traits learned

Alchemy: 2
all traits learned

BlackSmithing: 1
me: 7 - 9 traits researched across the board.
friend: 4 - 7 traits researched across the board.

Woodworking: 1
me: 6 traits researched across the board.
friend: 6 traits researched across the board.

Clothing: 3
me: 4 - 6 traits researched across the board.
friend: 5 - 8 traits researched across the board.

Crafting Achievement completion:
me: ~45%
friend: ~55%

Motif Completion: (only complete sets)
me: Dwemer, Hollowjack, Mercenary, Outlaw, Thieves Guild
friend: Hollowjack, Mercenary, Outlaw, Thieves Guild

As you can see my friend has generally less researched than me and less motif completion yet she's recieved 3 clothing, 1 blacksmithing, 1 woodworking and 2 alchemy master writs.

I am not writing this article to complain, I am writing because I am genuinely concerned that something is wrong with my account since I have received 0 master writs out of 70 completed top tier writs. I'd be interested to see if this is something that others are experiencing as well or if any ZOS member has anything to say about it. I am seriously considering reporting this as a bug.

It may sound like a silly question but are you sure you are doing max level writs - i.e. you have allocated skill points to have all passives maxed out (10/10, 6/6 8/8).

Could still be down to RNG - my main crafter has gone 10 days without a master writ in one stretch.

I am doing max level writs, it's asking for rubedo leather/ancestral silk/rubidite stuff. I didn't waste points in things like keen eye and hirelings, but I am max points into things like Solvent Proficiency, Metalworking, Tailoring, Aspect and Potency improvement, Recipe Quality and Improvement, and Woodworking.

I don't think that all the skills like hireling and keen eye are taken into effect in calculating master writ drop chance. Or at least it was never stated anywhere that having all the skills was necessary, just that you had to be able to do max tier writs which only requires maxing out the main skills in each craft.

No mention yet of achievements, so let's ask:

How are you doing on your crafting achievements? Compared to your friend?

By the way, I don't think the crafting achievements related to housing count towards the master writ drops yet.

I get 2-5 a day running writs on a bunch of toons. Once got 3 from one crafter on one day. But apparently the success rate only becomes good when you are truly maxed or close to maxed. By maxed I mean 9/9 on all traits and all the motifs (achievement or not).

Master writs were truly intended for the avid crafter.

Are we sure that putting points into all the skills in each crafting profession doesn't increase rate?

For some reason, I thought it helped. Your research numbers and complete motifs is also pretty low.

They do feel way, way too rare if I have to be honest. Going a few days without a master writ on my max toon stinks.

    To OP,

Master Writs drop rates are WAI, according to ZOS.

They won't admit they can't code properly or test properly, and that RNG trumps their attempts at coding.

I also haven't rec'd a master writ drop on my all singing, all dancing crafter, since introduced. My other crafters not max'd to the hilt have, but I've basically given up bothering now, and whilst I'm sure ZOS won't miss my $1000 per year spend on them I see no point in giving ZOS anymore of my cash.

Before the usual idiots post, do you have all traits, do you have all motifs, all achievements? blah blah, the answer is YES, I do have all traits researched, all motifs fully learnt, all achievements (except new house mats, but these are all on last segment anyway), and for what it's worth I still have all crafting passives assigned (too lazy to have reset ages ago).

Am I having a bad roll of RNG then obviously yes.. but the bottom line then is that RNG >>>>>> anything else in ZOS coding. WAI got to laugh.

If you are getting some master writs, well done, it's obviously WAI for you :)

I am max on my main, with the exception of some motifs.

I normally get one a week, but have had a week of nothing.

It seems this is just another of those annoying RNG things and they wanted to keep the rates of dropping low/hard to keep the token store more valuable.

I really have the idea I have lucky days. Most days go with nothing and then I get days I get 3-5.
Probably RNG messing with my head. But I still get them qith some regularity.
Also I have the idea that my twink which only makes provisioning and alchemy, gets same chance to drop alchemy master writs than my main.. probably due to its easy to get all the alchemy traits/achievements.

My stats from my memory due to maintenance.

My current completion is, all achievements except the furniture recipe achievements (got the furniture mats achievement).

All passives except keen eye (got one skill point in keen eye fro alchemy, otherwise I miss the columbine).

not quite sure how many purple provisioning recipes I got (maybe 10-15), but got most golden ones orzarga's&festival&ambrosia - not the atherial ambrosia though).

    Woodworking all 9/9 traits.

Clothing, leather 9/9 - still researching the last few nirntraits on light amor so thats 8-9/9

Blacksmithing. 8-9/9 overall (I think one weapon is still at 7, not sure). two weapons 9/9 and some amor also 9/9 (3 or 4? I think).

When it comes to styles I have 20/34 (not counted frostcaster and grim harelquin).

    I have not complete:
    - ancient orc
    - minotaur
    - order of the hour
    - dark brotherhood
    - abah's watch
    - trinimac
    - akaviri
    - mazzatun
    - silken
    - pact
    - daggerfall
    - re ga da
    - yokudan
    - dro m athra

    I have complete:

    - ancient elf
    - barbarian
    - primal
    - thieves guild
    - assassins league
    - outlaws
    - mercenary
    - hollow jack
    - malacath
    - xyvkin
    - deadric
    - skinchanger
    - imperial
    - dwemer
    - glass style
    - sould shriven
    - draugr
    - celestial
    - Ebon (the new one, yay I made a really good deal with someone on master writs)
    - (grim harelquin - which doesnt count)

Posted my stats yesterday on another thread but my highest skilled, 9 trait, motif heavy crafter has not received the most MWs, nor the most vouchers, nor the highest single voucher return, and has gone the longest break without a master writ (9 days). My character running second in crafting skills (8 trait), first to read any duplicate motifs and recipes, is further behind him.

I have 5 other characters, none of which did any trait research until Homestead, none of which have ever made or improved anything beyond what is needed to reach level 50 in the crafts, and 3 of these are beating the first two in either MWs received and/or vouchers received.

All of these characters have being doing writs every day since Homestead came to console and 4 of them have also received a higher level voucher reward than my most experienced pair.

I have not seen any evidence, after 4 weeks of Homestead, that Master Writ drop rate or voucher value, is ruled by anything other than RNG.

This is why I feel that this system isn't really a "reward" for a master crafter, since it relies HEAVILY on RNG. Sure, achievements, research, motif/recipe knowledge, etc. supposedly increase your CHANCES, but by how much? At the end of the day, it's still RNG and it sucks.

If the system were truly intended for the "avid" crafter, then it should have more gating than just putting points into a Level 50 skill to be able to get the top tier writs. It should have some sort of minimum requirements that reflect a certain amount of time/effort, and getting the writs themselves should NOT be based on RNG. What would remain based on RNG is what the writ requires as well as the seemingly wide range of vouchers you can receive as a reward. (Yesterday, I received a MW for a belt, legendary, reinforced, Orc, Armor of the Seducer - which gave me 72 vouchers. I've seen less awarded for sets with higher trait requirements or from a DLC and with a rarer motif.)

All in all, this system is not rewarding Master Crafters so much as just giving those of us who put a LOT of time and effort into crafting, some new thing to keep us busy, and giving us a slightly higher chance to get a MW then someone who got their skills to 50 and dumped just enough points to do the top tier writs.

It would be nice if they would post their equations for determining these things somewhere. I've played many other MMO's that build API's for 3rd party developers so that systems like this can be looked up and checked and you could see just how lucky you will be.

WoW has a system that allows people to figure out how rarely certain things drop and from where. Eve Online has a great API that is used to lookup market data, crafting costs, skill research and much more. All ESO has is the forums and what people have experienced and can best guess at.

I think they need to release some sort of API or atleast an official companion app that will help with these things

I think getting writs is a combination RNG and craft achievements. I mostly do writs on my main, and I average a little less than a writ a day. Most are for 2-5 vouchers, but they are dropping. However, my crafter was 100% in crafting achievements before Homestead. I think that makes a big difference. If you want more drops, start knocking out the achievements. It also seems pretty evident that there is no problem with the overall drop rate, as proven by the number of writs that are being offered for sale.

Has not bothered with master writs until recently, got an 46 writ one in blacksmithing on my first try.
8 traits researched, has all the old styles but nothing complete from dwemer and later.

its an base random chance and bonuses who increase chance.
Problem with low chance is that its very hard to get good data, looking at combat log with crit of 66% its easy to see that you crit 2/3 of hits.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

So my friend and I tried this idea out. She game me a clothing writ that she couldn't do anyways, I then accepted the writ and activated it. Then I went and completed all 6 crafting writs and turned them in and finally got my first master writ of my own for enchanting. Not sure if this was a fix or just so happened to work with RNG finally. But now I'm getting them.

So if anyone else is having problems never getting any master writs this might be worth a try.

On 8 master level crafters doing all but provisioning writs (1-9 trait, 7-6+ trait) I too have gone some days without getting one. It seems to be almost account based but no way to prove it... but some days 2-6 voucher is all I get then a day later I'll get one for 40+. Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays seems to be the days I'm just wasting time doing them. I just hit 100 master writs yesterday on my main, usually that means 'achievement met' and I'll get next to nothing from now on. Only time will tell...

hi. I have been crafting the normal writs from quests dutifully for 2 months, but no master writs has dropped for me. I am a 9 trait crafter in all but a few weapons, i have a smattering of motifs from many sets picked up from everywhere (i dont' sell motifs i just eat them)

but no master writs at all.

HOWEVER, I tried RESPECCING all my skills yesterday, and reassigning them to include all crafting skills. My theory was that since i have not respecced since a very long time (maybe 10 patches ago or more) this might be the thing that is bugging master writ awarding.

the very next day i got my first master writ.

TLDR: Try respeccing all your skills and reassigning max crafting skills.

I have 5 characters with all crafts maxed (but only one is my main crafter with motifs and traits). Sometimes I get nothing... for like a solid week. Sometimes I get five in one day on my non main crafters with no traits.
