Are sets like Bahraha curse, juggernaut, draugh heritage good for tanking ?

Guild mate said they suck because healer is supposed to save you...thats correct in perfect group when things are going smoothly, but what when things get tough ? What happens when healer dies ? Or for example in pug groups when healer suck or is maybe just too low of level etc..I have been trying these sets and they already save me couple of times and prevented possible wipe...How can they suck then ?

They are not the meta but useful, particularly if you like running 3dps and a tank for dungeons.
I built a sap tank wanting to use 5 leeching and 5 bahraha's(still missing a few pieces) to run vet pledges without healers. So far even in its unoptimal state it's working like a charm.

What's that saying different strokes for different folks.
Outside of vet trials play as you want is very much a reality so long as you build to do the job you que for, yes I know the "elitists" will hate the non meta, but who cares, I made a few friends with my sap tank already:)

For vet trials, you should run support sets, like Ebon for example.
For vet dungeons, you can run whatever you like.

What is meta exactly ? Tava favor + what ? Ebon is for trials, but what is meta for example for vet dungeons then besides Tava, since we have space for 2 sets not one Still use Tava+Ebon or is there something better ?

im using tava favor + powerful assault for 4 man content so I boost dps damage

I know what I am going to say will not be available to everyone but the solution is very simple .

Don't go with PUGs . Join a guild and make friends . Progress through the game with them . Done .

Reason they suck when in good group is , they are selfish sets . No support to group . When everyone do their job , tank debuffs/buffs , healer heals buffs/debuffs and DDs do most damage they can and everyone in group pays attention to mechanics ; it WILL go perfect . I never support using selfish sets on tank . Even in tanking axes . Most people put on some gear that gives them tankiness or sustain . I still go with Ebon/Alkosh . I stay close enough to group to make everyone get the Ebon bonus and still use Synergies while looking at boss to apply Alkosh debuff . I don't even want to think what those people are doing during execute phase . Stand there and light attack ? Come on . Everything can be tanked without selfish sets . If the group you are in is bad , it is not your responsibility to do their job yourself . Healer heals . That's it . You can heal yourself AND group with Vigor . See ? Even while healing yourself , you still give support . You can do both by using a single skill instead of wasting item slots .

For pledges , what you want for full support is Powerful Assault + Alkosh + Blood Spawn .
For trials , there are multiple choices for monster sets but Ebon + Alkosh is really powerful for obvious reasons . I still go with Blood Spawn for ultigen .

Btw , I support your choice about Hist Bark . Completely useless set . Using Hist Bark is like shouting in zone chat ''I cannot sustain 3k stamina skill every 20 seconds!'' .

If you don't have Alkosh yet , I highly recommend farming nMoL for it . Even with blue jewelry , it is pretty good . Until you get it , go with Tava's Favor .

Liofa thanks for extensive reply, but I am confused. Both Alkosh and powerful assault are medium sets, even using one of them is problematic, but you are saying to use BOTH of them ? You are saying to tank in full medium armor ??? How are we supposed to tank without good resistances, health, bonuses from heavy armor tree ? Tank is not supposed to be squishy...
I am missing something here, with Tava favor and Ebon we atleast can use heavy armor

There's no meta for vet dungeons. As long as you taunt things, you are fine.

I use Ebon + 7th Legion + Tremor for vet dungeons. Yup 7th Legion xD I use 7th Legion + Tremor in PvP so I figure why not.

Ebon + Powerful Assault is quite nice for vet dungeons if you want to do it properly.

You don't have to use Heavy Armor in pledges . I am trying to think of a really hard hitting boss right now that can one-shot you and I can't find one . Even if there are one-shots , you can either roll dodge , block or get out from range . For example , Selene does a very , very nasty attack that most people think is a one-shot even through block . It actually is not , it just hits really hard . I survive it because I have lots of health in my build . Anyways , even with low Health it is pretty much survivable . You just take 3 steps to the side and it is done . 0 damage taken .

In trials , off-tanks run Powerful Assault + Alkosh which are both Medium sets .

The idea for being this much supportive is making combats as short as possible . Shorter combat means less need for resources and less danger because the decrease in quantity of damage taken . More group damage = faster combat . If you don't want , you can just put on Tava's Favor in heavy as well . It doesn't change much but still , Powerful Assault will make your team hit harder .

There are situations in trials where those sets are vastly superior to ebon/alkosh/PA. In vAA HM on the last boss, we usually just have one tank take atros to side, one tank take axes to side and then nuke the boss without having to bother about enraging atros etc. We do that simply because tanks are too far away from the group to make anything else worth using. Same holds for vDSA last boss.

For these fights, I (and our main tank too) use 5 Bahraha/Defending Warrior , 5 Leeching Plate and 2 Sentinel of rkugamz. You are nearly immortal with those sets and when survivability is needed there's nothing better than them, especially when you have multiple enemies hit you at once. And those work on any class, not just saptank NBs.

If damage is needed and you are close to your group, support sets are the way to go. In pledges it doesn't make that much of a difference...
