LOS break doesn't work?

Is it just that my latency is too high that causes LOS breaks to not work? I get Jesus beamed through corners, trees, moving around objects doesn't save me from melee etc. Then I come up against players who just run around a tree and avoid three people. All the pros on YouTube keeping saying LOS is key but it mostly fails to work for me unless I'm inside a keep.
