Possibility to allow mods/addons on consoles?

I know the original answer was no, but I had a very long break from the game and think to return.. I wonder if there is a change to that matter? Skyrim special edition now is getting mods on console, so it is possible to happen (at first people said that sony does not allow mods, bla bla bla..).

I would love to have addons like Skyshards, lorebooks, quest locations on console :(

And if they cannot allow mods, why they dont integrate those popular addons into the game? Since almost everyone uses them on PC...

The add-ons for ESO are a little different to how mods work so I am not sure they'll ever be allowed.

Especially not with Sony and their strict rules.

Can you elaborate on that? What is the difference? Does ESO addons may cause problem to ps4 software in any way?

Well for PS4 Sony only allowed Fallout 4 / Skyrim mods which used the current games assets and no additional assets could be added. Microsoft were more lenient and allowed full mods but these have to go through the Fallout 4 mods page/hosting.

ESO doesn't officially host add-ons and all of them have to be downloaded via 3rd party websites which Sony and Microsoft too my knowledge don't like, ss you'll need to be downloading files which are completely unregulated.

I also don't believe ZOS has interest in managing an official add-ons feature as this would take development time and then having someone manage them to make sure nothing bad is happening.

Consoles are just much more tightly controlled ecosystems than PCs. Always go in to a console experience assuming you'll never get access to any kind of modding imo. Anything else is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Worse still, is hoping for devs to fold mod behavior into the base game. It almost certainly occurred to them that buff bars, for example, would be useful but presumably they made a conscious decision not to include them. I would never hold my breath for any dev team to walk stuff like that back. Obviously it happens sometimes, but that's the exception.

This is why you couldn't pay me to play eso (or any mmo) on a console

    I see :(

Well in my experience of MMOs, those who had addons supported eventually have integrated some them (Lotro, WoW) that were popular and useful.

@smithist yea, not having mods is a major con for consoles, but there are also lot of pros (major pros is bot free MMOs, equal hardware, etc)

I think buff timers are coming with morrowind, I would like to see pre set-options for gear and skills. It would be really nice to be able to change skills and gear quickly when in dungeons or something.

Totally fair, it's about tradeoffs I suppose. I'm somewhat desensitized to the whole botting thing at this point.

WoW and others have set a precedent for incorporating certain mods into base game, true. It's rare though. I've played WoW off and on since vanilla and can't even name a specific instance though I know it's happened. Problem is it's a total crapshoot. There's never any guarantee the mod you really want will be the one.

Not worth anyone getting their hopes up really

yeah right... cos no one on console ever used a rubber band.

Not sure that's fair. I'd wager the vast majority of players don't give a *** about that stuff. For many it could potentially be more info than they could handle. I could be wrong here, wonder if there are stats on mod usage.

There's a pretty clear trend of devs keeping base games simple and letting the minority that needs <inset mod> to get it themselves.

Hahahahahahahahahaha addons allowed by Sony and Microsoft you clearly have no idea about those companies.

They will never let it happen but Zenimax are doing their best to implement everything in the game like combat text, resources pool numbers, ulti numbers and in Morrowind they will release buff timers, hopefully after that they release a way to get Skyshards and Lorebooks as fast as on PC, on PC it gets 2-5h to get Mages Guild to 10, in console is about 10-30h depending on how boring it becomes for you.

Because having a phone, tablet or laptop open with a map of the zone is hard.

Before the addons for those were released, we were all stuck with websites for locations of such things. It is a lot slower because you don't get the clear position relative to where you are. Maybe not 5-6x slower, but at least 2x seems quite reasonable.

Needing an add-on for that is a bit funny, since it could easily be a function in base game.

Btw. I've heard rumours that we will get buff timers in Morrowind update.

Not the best way to play a video game and get immersed in it. I understand that lorebooks and skyshards are there to reward exploration, but after the 3rd -4rth character it become tedius.

How about this: If you find a skyshard or lorebook with 1 of your characters then this is marked on map for the rest of the characters on your account.

I wasn't aware opening a map, setting a waypoinnt by clicking a Skyshard/book closing the map and running in that direction was particularly immersive.

I understand where you're coming from, but to say it takes 5-25 more hours is a little silly (not that you said it, but the original comment was silly).

Console's players need PC's players to calculate what are best builds etc... For exemple I'd love to compare Argo and Breton healing abilities, but I can't as it's to complicate to "guess and caculate" and I don't want to spend time on this. Thus we check on videos, test and have to trust... So boring.

If something is deemed important enough to add, eventually ZOS will add it just like they did with floaty numbers, the DPS skeleton and (soon) buff timers.

However ... I want no part of leaving this in the players hands because then you eventually get things like Miat's PVP ruining nightblade finder abomination.

Its still much better than opening your phone/tablet or check a bundle of printed maps to do so :) And if it was just 1-2 per map... its skyshards, lorebooks, delves, quest hubs... its not fun trust me

I know it's an absolute niche feature but I would like to see something similar like Combat Metrics on consoles. Having the dps number on the target dummy is a nice start but not enough to evaluate a build or rotation.

I absolutely agree with you on this. It's in a character sheet, why not make it available for us to see while in combat? I can't imagine it being difficult to do this but I don't know much about programming.

While I agree addons can and should be implemented, the state of consoles and their laggy connections to the servers would likely make the game unplayable. ZoS needs to first fix their console servers.
