Need help for traits & motifs (new character)

So I've been playing eso again the past month or so and started thinking of strating a new character but wondered about the motifs and traits.
Do I teach one character (main) everything and all my other characters nothing ? So i can do everything with him or do I sepperate them so that my nb knows all medium armor and bow/dual wiled & then my dk all the heavy armor and two hand traits and all ?

If anyone who's expierenced could say his input on this, that would be great!

Well, there are a lot of motifs and it takes a long time to learn the traits.

It is highly recommended to have all of the equipment professions on one character to minimize the effort to acquire motifs (coin or farming time) because the motifs for armor work for all armor types (light, medium, heavy).

However, you can have as many crafters as you have characters. Some people convert former main characters into crafters afterwards. Some level professions on alts for hirelings and pve bonuses (eg longer lasting food, drinks, and potions).

Honestly I have 1 main crafter for everything, you could split it at first if you like. Alchemy, provisioning and enchanting are faster to level the armor and weapons. You could always add the easier ones at any time.

Collecting motifs will take time and gold. Researching traits will by far take the longest, try to keep pieces with the traits you need to research as you play. Put them in your bank and lock them until needed. I keep a spreadsheet as it makes it easier to keep track of everything.

Contrary to some opinions on the forums, there are enough skill points in the game to have a master crafter and be a viable player as well. Also when you finish researching, say woodworking you can respec and get those skill points back from the research reduction line.

A few tips:
Make a plan and stick to it

Research the more important traits first, ie sharp, divines, Impen

Trade for motifs when possible, always check traders on Sunday evenings, when traders change over if new guilds get them they are anxious to sell, deals for you.

Invest in researching reduction as fast as you can. With eso plus and all research reduction it will take 27 days to research the 9th trait on every item.

In the end 1 master crafter will benefit you especially now with master writs. Vouchers from those writs are non transferable between characters.

The writ vouchers you get are only bound to the character that does the master writ and cannot trade them over or sell them. In order to up your chances of getting the higher voucher writs, you need to know most motif styles, all traits, and crafting achievements on one character. Some people did this with several characters on multiple accounts, and are now rolling in vouchers used to buy legendary housing and crafting stations from the vender in grahtwood.

Oh okay I see what you mean, thanks for that. I just got my first master writ a few days ago. I was thinking of giving my sorc the light armor traits cause it takes so long to search after a while because I'm still researching medium but I'll do what you say once I have all medium untill then I'll just learn some things to my sorc.

If you have the Imperial edition, make your crafter an Imperial. They will be able to craft in that style out the gate and that's an expensive motif you do not need to invest in later.

I recommend for trait research you get two (or more) characters researching traits at one time, one from the bottom, one from the top, or some equal method to distribute the traits. It is faster in the beginning to research traits so this way you will become self sufficient with traits. Then it's just a matter of crafting a trait on one character and researching it on another. Additionally if you can, get your traits on high end gear (CP 150/160), it's better because you will gain more inspiration after you finish researching the item, as if you had deconned it. Once you reach 50 in that skill though, you can get the traits on level 1 gear.

On the topic of inspiration, the best inspiration comes from looted intricate* gear, the next best inspiration comes from gear crafted by another character. So you can have one character craft an item, bank it, and then decon the item on another character on the same account and gain the exact same amount of inspiration as if you had received the item from another player, on a different account. This holds true for weapons and armor, as well as enchantments.

Do the writs on all your characters. Do the writs. Do. the. writs.

That should be on "Intricate" not "Ornate" -- ornate sells for more money, intricate provides more inspiration.
