Terribad Magicka Templar Newb - Pls Halp

I die all the time. I'm ~130cp at the moment. I'm a casual player 4 months in now.. came from Skyrim & played WoW about 10 years ago. Please be nice, I'm soft.

Goals : I would like to be able to heal for groups (pve) but also need to be able to effectively solo (pve)

This may be where I frigged up when I was leveling??
Attributes : 45 magicka | 12 health | 7 stamina

I tried to watch youtube and look at different forum posts but everyone had something different to say about how I should be building out my Templar, so I just figured the more magicka the better

-Wearing all light armor for a magicka bonus. Light armor stats are maxed out except spell warding (its usually melee dudes destroying me)
Should I switch to heavy armor?
-I have my enchanting & clothing leveled up so I can make my own gear if I outlevel what I get on drops. I can't usually improve above green/blue because I don't have the mats to..

-I'm using resto staff.
Should I be using like sword & sheild type deal?

I see forum posts with people who have like crazy magicka 40k and I'm just like WTF how are you doing that? I only have 19k magicka :| and 13k health :|

I see forum posts where people are like don't be a healer under 20k health or you're going to die all the time...well I put on all gear with enchants to max my health and then I run out of magicka, and die anyways... it's just bad. IDK WTF IM DOING. :s

As a solo Templar your survivability comes from major mending(from rune or purify) combined with sweeps healing as it damages. Breathe of life is your burst heal

Are you eating food/drink? They can add +4000-5000 of each stat depending on the food.

Have you enchanted all your gear with magicka glyphs?

Are you using sets with magicka/spell power.

Inner light on your bar will increase magicka by 7% (including passives from mages guild).

You magicka will also increase as your CP's go up, as will your stamina and health.

Your attributes aren't bad, but the little bit you have in stamina and health won't do much for you. You can reset them at the shrines in your capital city.

    Hi there!
    • Put all your attributes into magicka
    • Eat Blue health + magicka food.
    • For solo PvE, as long as you don't run out of magicka, you should never die. Totally serious. Cast Rune Focus. Cast Ritual of Retribution. Stay put. Spam Puncturing Sweeps. Even World Bosses (or at least the vast majority of them) intended for groups can't kill a templar that does this.
    • For solo PvE, heavy armor isn't necessary (though I wear it since I am used to it for PvP).
    • Whatever you wear, be sure you have enough regeneration. Worm Cult armor is something you might want to consider since it's a good healing set and helps a lot with regeneration.
    • Blue armor is perfectly fine for solo PvEing. There isnt that much difference between blue armor and gold armor.
    • I recommend using a Lightning Destruction staff as one of your weapons. Use three of its skills: Elemental Blockade, Elemental Drain, The ultimate (use the Rage morph).
    • Your other weapon will probably be a restoration staff since you want to heal.

    Pve suggestion:
    Atributes: 64 in Magicka
If you need more health, I would suggest glyphs on your gear. I've healed through all hardcore trials. It takes a lot of practice at times and a feel of how your group performs. Spell power cure and worm cult gear is very beneficial.

    I rocked destro and resto.

Also I would suggest the wrothgar ozroga food which gives max health and Magicka recovery. It has always helped me. Sometimes you will just want to trial and error with gear and setups. If you need more help feel free to shoot me a message on here

Puncturing Sweep is amazing as its an aoe attack who heals you. You can do public dungeons just spamming it.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Sweep, sweep, sweeeeeeep. Puncturing Sweep reminds me of Critical Surge in its glory days of aoe no cooldown heals. I'm not saying nerf it but it baffles me ZOS would nerf Surge first to uselessness, then to a half decent shadow of former glory(not saying aoe heal part was balanced), then just give templars a skill that's basically doing the same. You just channel focus, close eyes and spam Sweeps pretty much. Works even on world bosses, even on some of those in Wrothgar and whatnot. It's a bit silly.

On side note, OP, if you still have any issues with the damage, use Annulment - light armor active skill. It's a shield based on your max magicka, one of its morphs also restores magicka when it gets hit with spells. It's a really good survivability boost.
