I just looked and I have one hand and shield as part of the same set and it says it counts as one

You might wear 4 armor and jewlerey pieces. Its an common mistake. 6 pieces give no bonus over 5

When you're dual wielding, you're using 2 weapons, so they count as two pieces, provided you have both equipped (and belonging to an existing set). For example, if you have 3 body armour of Night Mother's Gaze and 2 daggers of Night Mother's Gaze, you have 5 pieces of it on your dual wield bar, but only 4 if you switch to a NMG bow on back bar.

Do you mean it counts as one bonus, as opposed to one piece? To have a set bonus, you need at least two items of it.

Do some dungeon runs, with an friendly group its great fun, not very productive however
