How many addons are too many addons?

2ndcovenant_ESO
Hey folks,

I honestly seem to have too many addons. Some may even be redundant and so I can remove them (I could use some suggestions there). The biggest problem that I am running into though is memory lag within the game itself. I have 32 Gigs of ram on this computer and without the addons (all disabled), everything loads quickly and runs smoothly but when I load even half of these mods the lag is very, very rough. I was using Shissu's LUA but someone mentioned that No Thank You! has the same function to expand the LUA memory and I did in fact enable that function, but there still is not much of a difference.

I am wondering if other people run this many mods, what I should cut out of the list, and if you do run a lot of mods do you have lag issues, or any other ideas that people might have that would help.

I use the following addons:

Advanced Filters
AI Research Grid
Awesome Guild Store
Clock
Combat Cloud
Craft Store Fixed and Improved
Destinations
Enchant Maker
FCO Item Saver
Foundry Tactical Combat
Harven's Research Timers
Harven's Thieves Troves Marker
Harven's Trait and Style
Harvest Map
Inventory Insight
Inventory Grid View
Item Browser
Item Saver
Lore Books
Lost Treasure
Luminary Fish Me
Master Merchant
Master Recipe List
MiniMap
Mundus Map
No Thank You!
Price Tracker
Public Dungeon Champions
Rainbow Reticle
Ravalox's Quest Tracker
Research Assistant
Roomba
Skyshards
Slightly Improved Experience Bar
Srendarr
Tamriel Trade Center
TESO Delve
Undiscovered
Votan's Fisherman
WPamA
Wykkyd's Enhanced Chat
Wykkyd's Toolbar
XPView

You seem to be missing Shissu's LUA Memory.

You can also manually adjust the LUA memory by editing the ini file in mydocs/elder scrolls online/live.

As for what to make redundant in your list, simply ask yourself what you're actually using and is making life much easier, vs things you have just because it does something.

I for example don't use any XP bars apart from Wykkyd's Toolbar, I don't need to see my perfect XP/hr just an idea how far into a level I am at a glance.

You could also look into Add-On Profiles as explained by Miss Bizz in one of her videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOZ4sWND1YI

My LUA memory limit as in the ini file for some reason insists on being 256 MB. I've changed it to 512 - after the next login it was back to 256. I've changed it to 1024 - after the next login, back to 256. So I gave up and installed SLM.

Omg :) This is too much. How much time elapses between 2 character load?

I use ~10+. For me, it would be acceptable if I did not use to no one.
I am very happy because of buff tracker is coming with Chapter 2.

I will say goodbye for at least two addon.

If ZOS could do something with the trading system. I don't care what, everything would be better, and 1 thing would be important I don't want use Master Merchant, 3 trade guild 200k+ item f*king slow loading.

Without any addon 10 sec (log out) +few sec to change the next character. With addons 2 min at least :'(.

No faster travel? Free travel for everyone!

Couple things. Id make sure your addons are up to date. Also Harvest map made me log out until i turned off most of the pins on the map. I just left on chest and other harder to find things. Inreally dont need to know where every single bottle of water is. Ive also run into problems with various minimap problems.

So i would try turning those two off and try that. turn one on and then the other so you know which one it is. And go from there.

You dont seem to have a crazy amount of addons. So if neither of those are it. Id turn them all off and then turn them on one by one until you find the problem. Loading screens will always increase with more addons but that is normal. Game lag is not.

Well most addons dont make a problem.
Master Merchant and especially Harvest Map eat up memory.
Id say use 1 char you barely use to trade where you have all the trading addons on and turn them off on the rest.
Same with Harvestmap I tried this addon once problem is the more you find the bigger of a memory this addon needs and it gets laggy quite fast. Maybe only turn it on when you want to find some mats else just keep it off.

With Harvest Map, if using a mini map, it is important to turn down the map markers that are showing. Those who use Master Merchant will have to pause while it reads the guild trader logs at login.

I use three big data add-ons, and initial character load time suffers, as does logoff, while it loads all that data. After that, the amount of data does not seem to be a problem, except as noted above.

The problem for me seems to be add-ons that do a lot of work on FPS ticks or events. These can block foreground, so I keep combat add-ons to as close to zero as possible. I have Srendarr and Combat Metrics, and that is all.

    A few suggestions

    1. Use Votans Minimap instead of Fryakins or any other minimap. It is lighter and faster.

    2. Harvest Map. If you use this and have many pins turned on it can really bog down your fps any time you open the map or transition from area to area. Like freeze your computer for several seconds. Only use the map markers you really need. I only use treasure chests, heavy sacks, and TG troves. I find I can barely take a step without running across a normal resource node and the map doesn't help for those at all.

    3. I have heard that master merchant can really bog down your system and has memory leak problems. TTC by itself may be enough for you.

That's about all I can see. BTW I use way more than you and have no issues currently. :)

You have a lot of redundant addons. You have two item saver addons when it is now in the base game. You have two fishing addons. Not really sure you need master merchant and price tracker, but I don't know what price tracker does. I'm pretty sure destinations and undiscovered do the same thing, and I think one of those covers what public dungeon champions does.

That is just off the top of my head, I'm not at my computer right now. I'd suggest that you look at the addons and read what features they have and cut out the redundant addons. Pick which one you like better.

Oh, and Wykkyd's Toolbar has a clock, so you don't need a second clock addon.

If you have ESO and addons on a SSD, even 200 addons should not make a differece as long as sufficiant RAM is allocated to it.
I have well above 40 addons and MM that has not been purged since 2014. Addon related performance problems = 0, apart from 2 second stutter when MM refreshes all sales data upon login.

If you, however, play on a HDD, ESPECIALLY a 5400 RPM one, i really feel for you, i really do. Time to dump that dinosaur and move on with the times.

You have to edit the UserSettings.txt file when the game is closed and not running. The game updates this file when it exits and thus overwrites any changes you make to it while the game is running (whether you are actually in the game or on the character select screen).

That does not seem like very much, OP. I have run games with well over a thousand addons before (Skyrim/Sims2). Just shut off the lua hogs when you do not need that addon atm. You can turn the addon on and off it will not hurt anything.

    Lua hogs are:
    Master Merchant
    AwesomeGuildStore
and sometimes Harvest Map but it's not to bad.

Shut those off when you are not using them. Also Shissu only goes up to 500 no higher. When it popups to go higher just say "no" or it will keep asking all the time.

The clock the OP is using may be one of the clocks that give you Tamriel time. I have one that gives the time plus the moon cycle, which I used to get bit by a werewolf back in the day.

Thanks folks. I really do appreciate the help a lot. This seems to be one of the threads that has good information in almost every post lol. I am putting your suggestions in place right now.
