The major source of prices are addons such as Master Merchant, however as these give you average prices from sales across your Trade Guilds not having any Trade Guilds would render it useless.

MM / TTC, they just give normal estimates but nothing is worth someone says, only to the buyer and sell

TTC, or Tamriel Trade Centre, provides data on listing prices from thousands of item listings across all guild traders. It tells you what items are being priced at throughout Tamriel, but not what they are selling for.

MM, or Master Merchant, provides data on sales from all sales made within the guilds you are a member of. It tells you what items are actually selling for, but only tracks data from the guilds you're in.

    Use both.

ATT o:) - on the surface it seems to work like MM, but its more efficient to the performance and more stable.

I knew about MM but never heard of TTC. I'll have to check it out, and also join a trading guild.

I'm not in any trading guilds anymore so no longer use MM. I just buy what I need with gold that I grind. AwesomeGuildStore is the addon I use to ensure I buy at the lowest price. It remembers filters which makes searching multiple traders for a single item quick and easy, and it will display the individual item cost in multiple stacked items. So you can see how much 1 dreugh wax is in the stack of 8 without needing to do mental arithmatic.

So you can use this without being in a guild?

MM won't work well if your not in atleast 3 trading guilds since it takes info from the guild sales you are currently in, but TTC takes info from the whole server.

Yes, it's just an addon that adds functionality to the vanilla guild trader menu; more filters, including a text filter so you can search for items by name, it remembers your filters until you reset them, even after relog, and gives you itemised prices. It will only search the guild trader you're interacting with, but because it remembers your filters it only takes a moment to switch to a different guild trader and start the same search again immediately, rinse and repeat. It's all you need if all you do is buy for yourself. MM is more necessary if you want to sell, but its effectiveness depends on how many trading guilds you're in and the quality of those guilds.

Could it be that this addon is what's been causing lags across the server? I've long suspected that all price checkers are culprits to the slowdown of connections between servers and clients.

It only makes sense intuitively speaking as they rely on an almost realtime and constant feeds on information and that in itself consumes huge amounts of data.
To make matters worse, a lot of, if not most, players are running the addon and that puts a huuge strain on the server.

Something else; the TTC client is a .exe, so it won't run on a Mac unless you're using bootcamp or virtualpc or some such thing.

Not sure, I'm not a network person but yeah MM does lag a ton in the beginning whenever you loadup the game, also TTC has a background program that compiles data from the game onto the TTC website, so maybe it could be causing the server lag
