Treasure Maps - Worth taking the time to get them?

It seems the time I take to go get one, I could do the 3 dolmens in Alikir's and get better stuff. I haven't gotten anything from a treasure chest map that's wowed me. I have over 40 treasure maps spread across characters and bank.

I'm wondering if I should just trash them or give them away. Even the guild stores report they're only selling for 200 - 400 gold each. Again, not worth the time since you have limited slots to sell - and I'd rather fill those slots with furniture, gear and motifs that sell for a whole lot more.

Yes, they absolutely are - if they are in a zone you want the set item for (since you're more likely to get a weapon than from farming bosses, or at least it takes less time) and you ought to use the CP Treasure Hunter passive for opening up 40 chests. Who knows? You might get a sharpened weapon that sells for 200k or that you actually want.

Using either the Lost Treasure Addon or a website that shows you where the chests are, you spend less than 5 minutes getting a chest from a treasure map. Other than the one in Bangkori that is right under a world boss.

Use them on an Alt that has the Treasure Hunter Passive and they are well worth looting.

I have done my share of hunting down those nasty treasure chest. In my opinion it is a hassle and not worth it. I sell them all in my guild or just delete them.

If you have thieves guild and legerdemain max out you can do just fine with random chest you run across in the open world. I have gotten 2 purple paintings, countless purple rings that way and tons of other good stuff.

I get better loot from them than running through delves and dolmens when I'm farming overland sets (with the treasure hunter passive).

No, they aren't worth a thing. How ever I still like the challenge of finding them. Please send all of your's to me.

Yes they do. But it's still rare. They take the place of purple gear so they're part of that loot table.

Not if you're looking for paintings, got one purple painting out of over 40 maps. They are for the loot if you use an add on which is quick and easy.

I usually accumulate like 10-15 of them and then one random saturday I'll just go and get them all. I dont really ever get anything that I want, but some decent stuff I made money off of. I dont have the treasure hunter passive though, so I should probably do that when I go pick them up.

Several mentions of treasure hunter passive. If I assume correctly - I need to be at least CP225 in order to have enought points for that to unlock, yes? If so, I've got a ways to go, level wise

No of treasure chests opened since they fixed the bug: Over 100. Number of paintings from them: 0

You get a ton of epics like mentioned above...

Number of regular chests opened since homestead: Hundreds, number of paintings found: close to 20.

Drop-rate for paintings is very bad in treasure chests compared to regular chests. But the other items you get in regular chests are usually junk items.

I save them and when I'm bored or login and then after writs not sure what to do they are a great time killer and I have found really great finds in them rare but still there.
If you have very limited time to play then just work it into ur routine like login writs>one treasure map>daily vet/pvp don't have to do them all at once

I think they are a waste of time. I don't have the Treasure Hunter passive and as such the rewards I have gotten from them have been utter crap. No paintings, no purples, mostly useless blues and greens with bad traits. They just take up inventory space now until I give them away.

Psst... there are hints that the gear cap will rise in the update after morrowing. I have an alt account that is saving up my trea sure maps for that. Until then the treasure map rng doesn't feel worth the effort.

Kill and harvest everything as you are going from chest to chest and you can end up with all kinds of good stuff.

I have found both a sharp spriggans dagger and sharp spinners inferno staff in buried chests, so yes, the maps for certain areas are well worth it. I always pick up maps for Stonefalls, Bangkorai and Malabal Tor if I see them for around 500g in vendors.

Meh it's RNG .Some will hit the lotto and some won't . I'd rather grind an area for what I need .

I got zero paintings from the 27 after-patch, fixed treasure map chests I opened, and that's with the treasure hunter champion passive. Set items are only interesting if you want the zone's set. I only got trash but want some nice paintings for my home.

I did a few when I first started playing. Now I simply destroy them as I find them.

I only ever bothered to go out and locate one of them. I didn't have the treasure hunter perk so the loot was crap. They are taking up a lot of bank space I would prefer to use for mats so I may destroy them. I'm not in a trading guild so selling them isn't really on the table. I do wish I had never unpacked them though.

The maps that came as a pre-order bonus at launch came as unpackable items like "daggerfall maps" that once you opened it had a number of maps inside that you could add to your inventory. Same procedure as the thieve's guild equipment rewards for completing quests.

Waste of time.
You will get much better loot from Advanced/Master zone chests. The loot level seems just slightly better than Intermediate zone chests and the painting drop rate is abysmal ( i got 1 painting from 50 maps).
If you are after paintings, get your harvest map on & hit those zone chests.

oh and...treasure hunter perk does FA for map chests...

I've opened at least 75 advanced and master chests in the last 2 weeks, and I just found my first painting. Painting of Bridge, Bolted.
I was beginning to think that my RNG was really bad. There no telling how many of the treasure maps I've used, and still not seeing paintings there. When I find a map, I usually port straight there to dig it up.
