Ancestor Moths Pet

I really love these moths, I bought extra crates to get them. But I can't play with them right now because they make a really high frequency noise that hurts my ears. I made a new character to use these moths, but don't want to use them until the noise gets fixed. Will someone please look at this? I posted in support as well since I didn't know where to post this.

Thank you very much. Otherwise I love the pet.

I have the moths, and I didn't have a problem with any sound. In fact, I didn't think they made any sound at all. IS it since the last patch? I play on PS4, so maybe it's just PC...

If it's a very high frequency noise it's likely not all computer/TV speakers can play it and certain that not everyone can hear it.

Human hearing goes up to 20 kHz (or just over) but it degrades over time, by the time you're in your 40s you may have lost the top 5 kHz. (Or weird things can happen - I can hear 19 - 20 kHz, but not 18 because that's the frequency of my tinnitus, then I can hear from 17 down.)

But it's not uncommon for speakers to exclude the highest frequencies (and the lowest) since even for people who can hear them it's not a pleasant, or useful sound.

It's also likely to be a bug, for the same reasons.

It's a fairly quiet but high frequency jingle, kinda has an oscilating pulse to it as well. Can definitely say not everyone will hear it or all audio devices play it. However, it definitely hits a frequency that gives me a gradual headache after about 30ish minutes.
Will say they look pretty in low light conditions, so there is that.

Heard em initially, and it didn't bother me, but after a bit noticed feeling less than stellar. That's when I realized it was the constant pulsing jingle they emit. Darn ancestor moths really are trying to guide/control the living with their insectoid methods.

At least there is one benefit to being old....

I wonder if the dogs will go nuts when this pet is out?

First thing I thought when I read the op was "how old is this person"

I expect that it is related to being able to hear a sound that the person who made the sound could not hear.

It's a good thing to report this though, as it really wouldn't be pleasant to listen to at all if you can hear it.

I'm actually 43, but have had stellar hearing, esp on high frequencies, my whole life. I'd love to lose some more of that as I get older, ha, because it can be very irritating. I can hear dog whistles and faulty lights giving off a buzz no one else seems able to hear. Glad it's not just me, though. And for ages, I thought my speakers were acting up, but it was definitely the moths. I actually turned effect volume down, but the problem isn't the volume, it's the frequency. I could still hear it, it still bothered me, so I turned off the pet for now. Sigh.

Should be an easy fix. In my imagination, since I actually don't know how they fix things, to be honest. But a leaf fluttery sound would be better if it has to have a noise. Honestly though... moths. Could be silent and still be a-okay.

I love those moths so much! But I refuse to buy crown crates to get them, so I am going to have to do without :disappointed: Though if they make horrid noises, perhaps thats a good thing anyway, as I tend to hear things that others do not pretty often too

Yes, definitely hope these get looked at. They're beautiful to look at in game, I love them, but they should be playable even to those of us with high frequency hearing, lol.

I found someone with the moths today and hung around so I could hear the noise they make. I can see why it'd be annoying!

For a minute or so, with my sound down low (which is how I always have it) it wasn't too bad, but it'd drive me mad to have that following me around all day.

I have the moths and can't even hear it on my computer. I don't play with the sound super loud, though.

I think too it depends on how good a person's high frequency hearing is. I wish mine were less good at this point, LOL.

Sorry to necro... But can you guys please reduce/remove the high frequency "screeching" sound effect that this pet makes?

I just got this pet from the Wild Hunt crates since I missed it last year and have also noticed the high frequency "screeching" sound effect it makes. At first I thought my TV was making the sound but then after trial and error found that the sound was actually coming from this pet... This sound is like nails on a chalkboard and starts to give me a headache after a while.

I recorded a video with the pet's sound if anyone wants to hear it:

OMG, thank you for posting that video! I was just about to use my last gems on the moths (because they really are so pretty!) but that awful noise would render them unusable for me.

Bizarrely, this sound actually helps neutralize my tinnitus. And I'm 50. Sound frequencies and how they affect us...pretty fascinating.

That is an odd sound for moths to make, almost like they accidentally attach the sound file meant for those weird Ash Hopper crickets or something.

tbh the game is waaaaayyyyy to gratuitous in general with it's visuals, audio, intentionally satisfying things, and all of the like. this shouldn't have to be the case but I play on mute and with as low a brightness as I can go while seeing mechanics
