Necromancer Class

It's been a few years now and no Necro class yet.........kinda lame.

We can become Vampires and Werewolves, join the Dark Brotherhood and become a murderer or become a thief but still no Necromancer?

After playing the older games like Morrowind and Oblivion I just figured Necromancer was always going to be a playable role.

Probably one of the reasons for no necromancer class is because some of your biggest enemies in this game are members of a necromancer cult..

There are plenty of enemies that are NB, Sorc, Templar, and DKs but we can use those classes. Anyway just because you're a necromancer doesn't make you the villan, just look at Vastaire.

We should defiantly get a necromancer class next time they add a new one.

As discussed in another thread on this topic, a Necromancer skill line could do the job as well, and be much easier to implement than a full-fledged class. Here's hoping...

I would make this a world skill line to limit it some. Call it the lich skill line: mutually exclusive with vampire and werewolf. The ultimate, like werewolf, transforms you into a lich, where only lich skills can be used.
Give it a couple basic summoning skills, and a couple ice spells. Something like this:

    Ultimate: lich form
Transform into an undead lich, gaining the ability to use lich spells. While transformed, you are classified as undead and take additional damage from fighters guild abilities. Lich form lasts until toggled off or you are killed. Non lich abilities cannot be used while transformed.
While in lich form, your light and heavy attacks are replaced by frost Magic (a la overload).

    1. Raise dead
Raise two undead skeletal warriors from the ground to fight for you. The skeletons apply minor maim with each attack and will taunt enemies that attack you. These skeletons last 20 seconds before collapsing back into a pile of bones.
    Morphs:
Skeletal berserkers: the skeletons now wield 2h axes, deal more damage, and cleave enemies.
Skeletal archers: the skeletons no longer taunt enemies. They now wield diseased bows that apply major defile to enemies.

    2. Grasp of the dead
Cause groping undead hands to claw from the ground in the area, dealing damage and snaring enemies.
    Morphs:
Freezing grasp: the claws deal frost damage and immobilize enemies in the area.
Inescapable grasp: affects a larger area, and the snare persists on enemies that leave the area.

    3. Bone splinters:
Activating this spell causes your raised dead to explode, blasting enemies near them with sharp bone shrapnel. If your skeletons have collapsed into a pile of bones, the explosion occurs from the piles instead.
    Morphs:
Disease cloud: the explosion leaves behind a cloud of choking disease, applying major defile and dealing damage over time to enemies that remain in the area.
Corpse explosion: instead of affecting your risen dead, this spell now causes all Corpses in the target area to explode, dealing aoe damage. The amount of damage increases based on how many corpses are in the area.

    4. Ice lance:
Hurl a frozen spear at the target, causing knockdown and dealing heavy damage.
    Morphs:
Piercing lance: the spear continues along its path, damaging and knocking down all enemies it hits.
Chilling lance: reduces the cost, and the lance now, always applies the chilled status effect.

    5. Aura of undeath:
Surround yourself with a cloud of necromantic power for 20 seconds, gaining major ward and major resolve and dealing constant damage to any enemies in range.
    Morphs:
aura of immortality: draw the life essence of any enemies that die within the aura, healing yourself and regaining magicka.
Necromantic command: each time an enemy dies within the aura, a shade is risen from their corpse to fight for you for 20 seconds.

Lich is too limiting. If anything, "necromancer" could be a guild skill line, like Mages or fighters guild, with all the spells we see NPC necromancers and liches use... animating skeletons, spectral grasp ground AoE, animating flesh atronarchs, lich-style soul cage as ultimate perhaps...
    Like so:
    Necromancer
    Skills:
    • Spectral Grasp (area snare, dodgeable, like lich)
    - Morph1: Spectral Hold (+immobilize, then snare, like NPC necromancers)
    - Morph2: Cursed Grasp (+ DoT, like undead death curse)
    • Raise Undead (summon one skeleton, duration)
    - Morph1: Raise Corpse (summon zombie, +special attacks – punch, vomit)
    - Morph2: Army of Undead (summon 3 weak skeletons)
    • Drain Strength (channeled, interruptable, do damage, gain magica)
    - Morph1: Drain Life (+ also gain health)
    - Morph2: Drain Power (+ reduce target spell damage for duration)
    • Animate Dead (summon stronger undead, Draugr/Ra-netu, duration)
    - Morph1: Animate Flesh (summon Flesh Atronarch)
    - Morph2: Animate Bones (Summon Bone Colossus)
    • Spirit Blast (like Mannimarco but smaller, two-tier AoE strike)
    - Morph1: Spirit Bombardment (+area, Mannimarco sized)
    - Morph2: Soul Blast (ignores some spell resistance)
Ultimate: Soul Cage (like the Lich spell, but with extra damage in spell area)
    - Morph1: Soul Prison (+duration)
    - Morph2: Etheral Cage (+area)
    Passives:
    • Gravesinger: undead pets get extra damage resistance/HP
    • Necropotence: gain extra magica when necromancer pets are active
    • Soul Render: do bonus damage against enemies affected by necromancer abilities
    • Death Feeder: any time an enemy dies within 20 meters, gain health & magica

And made as DLC with an "infiltrate the now leaderless worm cult / withered hand / new necromancer cult to stop their next desperate scheme"...
Although, I suspect they may be thinking "been there, done that" when it comes to necromancers as enemies...

Then they aren't lore experts either...

There are at least two ways to justify it:
-As was pointed out, you're infiltrating the leaderless necromancer cults
-You were a necromancer who was betrayed by someone else in one of the cults, which is how you wound up in Coldharbour at the start of the game

Plus being hated by the people isn't an issue, since you can be a werewolf, vampire, or Dark Brotherhood assassin. No reason being a necromancer has to be a problem.

I suggested lich as opposed to a guild skill line for a reason. It's much easier for zenimax to balance abilities in a vacuum. When you have transforms with specific abilities like werewolf (or the suggested lich), they don't have to worry about those abilities becoming too powerful when combined with class or other existing abilities.

Well, you've taken the first necessary step: You created a forum account. Now, you just need to find some old threads, preferably from 2014 or 2015; the more outdated information the better. Finally, you need to post some irrelevant comment in them, or attack a poster with as many stars as possible, over information that was accurate when they posted, but is no longer true.

Do all of this, and you too will be a necromancer.

Why is it "unrealistic"? There is a new class coming with Morrowwind, so it's very realistic to think that other new classes may come out with time.

You shouldn't have to belong to any particular faction to be a necromancer. It's not like there's a monopoly on raising the dead.

I tried to figure it out this way: Who gave the vestiges the class skills?

    Dragonknights: Akatosh
Templers: probably Arkay, Magnus and/or Auri-El
Nightblades: probably Sithis or Mephala, maybe Boethia
    Sorcerers: different daedric princes
Warden: probably Y'ffre and other et'Ada, idk

    Necromancers?

I don't see any deities tied to necromancy. Maybe it's the Ideal Masters who rose to divinity?
