Tips, tricks and advice for a new player

Hey guys. So I just want your input. I'm a fairly new player and I love the game. I see lots of complaints about it but I can't say anything bad besides having experienced the dreaded 304 error twice. I was wondering if anyone had some good advice or tips and tricks for a new player. Also should note that I'm not interested in crafting and don't plan on picking it up. It's just not my thing. Never been a fan of grinding and crafting in any game honestly. I appreciate the feedback! Thanks and keep on questing!

You don't have to grind to level up crafting at a steady pace. Resources are fairly plentiful and even just researching and breaking down loot will level you at a steady pace. If you're playing just for PvE questing you should consider some crafting to help give your character an edge in combat.

Find a trade guild and start selling things/raw mats. Enough gold can free up from gringing

you dont have to craft, you should however decon items and put points into getting better at (recovering rare mats) from deconning items. if you chose not to do that, you'll be poor.

    feed your horses
    keep your buffs up
dont waste money/time on farming/buying on any gear until cp160
you ll save alot of money if you have the crafts down.
level your alts early with horses now. it ll pay off later when you're ready to level them and you have a level 10 toon with a 60 speed steed.
and seriously keep your buffs up. - about the main 80 percent difference between a competent player and a bad player is the competent player keeps buffs going in a disciplined way all the time.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING. Just suffer dropped items until you hit cp ranks. But enjoy it. 1st time round I did all of AD, pact and half of DC and that took me to the old V10 rank. The stories are well written and it is fun. 2nd toons not so much. But now it's good to sub. You've got 4 dlcs to play with and endless content. Get to like level 30 and go do wrothgar. The imperial city story line is pretty good but beware predators like me are after AP at every turn. Also best xp in the game is down the sewers. Plus now with master writs alliance style motifs are back in business as a lot of people ignored them.

^ yeah id recommend enjoying the quests and explorations early on- try and tick off as many achievements as you can on one main, it ll unlock costumes and areas and titles which is nice. early game for me i recommend anyway is exploration and questing- just learning the game- then when you get to 160 - start to focus on builds and dungeons, trials, experimenting with alternate skill morphs and so on. i see alot of level 20 players who are like "hundings rage or night mothers?!" and i think its firstly way too early to consider gear, and secondly way too early to even think about builds- i mean look into it- but you never know. for example my friend s first toon was a stam character and he ended up hating stam and preferred magicka- then regretted doing all the quests on that stam character- which he has now retired.
i think its good to make a few alts - maybe one of each class- and just play around- really make sure what class u want to try out first and make your main- cos you never know. i started out as stamblade- realised i hated/sucked at it and then levelled /quested all over again as a DK. what I'm saying is- just play , experiment and have fun. kind of like college....

and dont fret either- if you like the game - wchih hopefully you do- you ll end up making LOT of toons . i couldnt imagine at the time more than one - now i have 14- across both servers and i want more to experiment with. even grinding becomes okay after a while. lore books will never be fun though.

What do you mean? I've never once stopped from story and side quests.

Oh, do you mean that it's a grind to just power level through and miss the entire point of the game? OK, if that's what you mean, sure. Then every game is a grind.

But back to the question asked.

    LORE BOOKS!
Hit every side quest you can!
    Make friends and hunt together!
Join MULTIPLE guilds (yes, this game allows you to do that)!
    Watch for the Dark Anchors!
    And so much more.

if you dont know what i mean, then you dont know what i mean. especially when you do it for 12 characters.
I never once stopped from doing story, side quests, achievements cadwells etc etc. the grind is there and it sure as hell is real.
Just an FYI, powerleveling is the FURTHEST thing from grinding in this game, esp when u have the cp cap/points to spend.

Here are some tips I've picked up:

    * Always make sure to have at least one heavy, light and medium armor piece equiped. It will make ut easier for you to change role later in game.

    * Get a skill from the weapon line you will use on the backbar on the main bar, and a main weapon skill on the back bar (it will allow you to level both weapons at the same time without you having to worry about which bar you use when dealing the killing blow to mobs or turning in quests.

    * Start mount training and crafting research ASAP (by that I mean as soon as you get to a city with a stablemaster and crafting stations). And start all the guild questlines as fast as you can too (it isn't really needed, but it can make things easier). (even if you don't care about crafting you should start the research, you never know if you might need it in the future)

also if you are on PC downlaod the Minion addon manager and get Skyshards and Lorebooks.

Yeah, this was my reaction too. :D The ones who grind are the ones who choose to grind. There is so much to do that you never have to grind a single thing, if that's not what you want to do. The only thing I grind is my thief for money, and I wouldn't do that if I didn't also find it fun.

The biggest thing, OP, is to just take your time. Explore. Quest. Listen to the characters. Go get lost in the wilderness. Spend an afternoon picking flowers or fishing. Get to know people and maybe join a guild. After level 10, check out PvP. Find a trading guild and test the waters of the player trade system. There is no reason to rush to endgame. Take your time doing whatever it is that you like to do in-game. Don't feel pressured to craft, etc., just because it's something that exists.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

I was thinking since you are a new player, you can join Blackwaters Merchant guild ( see my signature ) and sell all the low level drops sets you don't need. Then when you hit around level 50 I can invite you to Friendly Dungeon Runners so you can do group content and get some nice gear.

Doing this will give you a little extra space in your inventory. Also when you quit, you can just dump all your goodies in the guild bank for all the lovely guild members :)

My advice to you would be. If you plan on getting alliance war skills ( war horn, vigor ) then I would enter PvP before becoming level 50. Those skills are easy to get at low levels, and getting them early allows you to level them up earlier.

Mine as well, both of those (yours and other dudes) posts seem to be coming from people who play skyrim:online.
you're telling the person to take his time, relax and all that and its great but are YOU PAYING his sub costs? are you going to tell him just how much it is going to cost him to take his time?

are you going to tell him how much it costs just to have the crafting bag?

will you mention to him the timers invovled in crafting and the bonus from having + yo reduce those times?

I made a new character and tried NOT to level it. I hit 50 entering deshaan.and that was playing as slow as i possibly could.

I've been playing since the PC launch almost 3 years ago and haven't done what I would consider any grinding. However, it isn't really possible to give specific tips without knowing a lot more about your approach and preferred playstyle. My only advice usually is to focus on enjoying the journey and don't worry about rushing to the destination i.e. endgame.

No don't join an guild, join multiple and keep the ones you like most, you can join 5 :)
Later this can be practical as many guilds specialize in pvp, pve or trade.
And as other say, don't stress, at level 10 you can do pvp and dungeons, try it out but it can be smart to do it with guild first.
This is the most important part have fun.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
