it was a direct blessing from Akatosh since they had to sacrifice themselves for the power.
truth be told tho it's partially necromancy since it required a living soul to power the blessing.

Less than that most of the time as well. I'm not aware of any other dragonborn (other than Miraak, the last and Tiber Septim) that learnt to use the Thu'um. Other than the phrophetic dreams, political prowess, lust for power and their ability to light the dragon fires most Dragonborns that are known dont display anything particularly exceptional about themselves. Mainly because dragons near extinction in their time, much like in the second era.
