How important is Health end game?

How important is health end game? I'm asking because some races have racial passives that increase health or health recovery. However, even when tanking in other MMORPG's Health is not as important as other stats. For instance if you wanted to play as a magicka tank and had to choose between 12% extra Health or 10% extra magicka. Which would be better? If you create a dps character do you need to put any points into Health end game?

If you wanna tank, you need a bigger healthpool, but yea, generally health is not as important as magicka or stamina, mostly for the fact that you can make up you lack of health with more healing, you just need enough to avoid getting oneshotted.

For a tank, 30k health is the standard people reach for. So if you can get that amount through your racial passives that will enable you to concentrate on other stats through gear. Or, conversely, you can get the health through your gear that will allow you to play a race that has other stats like stamina or magicka pool. Really, you're just looking to hit that number, how you go about doing it isn't as important.

EDIT: For a DPS character you're looking at roughly 18k health, but your dps stat pool is more important. How you go about it is up to you - attributes, racial passives, enchants. And those numbers are buffed.

Health Recovery is probably the most worthless stat in this game (sure there are exceptions), but as a general rule its not even considered in most end game builds. Max health is very important in the sense that you need a baseline to avoid certain one shots.

If you have a min/maxed DPS going 5/1/1 with undaunted and max CP, but no other health buffs, you will have a touch over 17k health. That is enough for most every piece of content, assuming you are getting other buffs to your health. The two obvious ones are Warhorn (10% to stats) and Ebon armor (1100 health for the group). This will give you a touch over 20k health, which is good enough for any hardmode trial. It seems crazy, but when we were pushing VMOL HM, we tried darn near everything. We had the off tank drop Ebon for a night and it was a disaster. 1100 health doesnt seem like a lot, but when everything basically hits for 8-10k, its the difference between surviving two quick attacks and dying to them.

as a tank in pledges i shoot for about 27k. as a healer or dps I go for 17k. 17k may be a touch overkill but i'd rather survive if i get distracted or lag. Haven't done any trials yet but i hear dps need 18k and tanks 30k

There is no way you can achieve less than 17k health on a DPS if you have the Undaunted Mettle passive and max CP.

Stamina DPS in full medium have less than that. Which is why I always prefer to run 1 piece heavy on my stamina toons.

Well, assuming you are running blue food. 17k is certainly not overkill in any event. If you are not fairly experienced, you should frankly shoot for 18.5-20k.

I'm pretty sure some stam dps go 7 medium armor for the extra crit.

I would amend that to "basically all who know what they're doing." Also, pledges aren't endgame.
