Gamepad Mode (Beta) on PC

Hello,

I'm not here to complain, I genuinely want to know if Gamepad Mode for PC is something ZOS is actually working on? Not as in we'll get to it "one day" but an actively improving process? The reason for asking is simply that I enjoy the gamepad mode (even as it is now) but there're so many small disadvantages that if it's not realistically going to get off Beta and improve in the near future I should probably just begin reacclimatising with Keyboard and Mouse.

More specifically:

- Camera rotation speed : Slower speed was very useful when first starting, but as I, and I'm sure others become used to the game and muscle memory sets in, would it be possible to have a larger range of speed adjustment please?

- NPC chat UI : I think this actually counts as a bug as when you're in Gamepad mode quite often the text from conversing with NPC during questing will not be viewable down the bottom (sometimes to the right) depending on how large you've set the in-game UI. Presuming Gamepad mode was made so people could actually play on couch and tv, it's reasonable to assume many will have the UI set to custom and quite large. A lot of the dialogue can't be read in Gamepad mode with large UI scaling.

I really do like playing with a controller and perhaps just switch to KB/M for more serious PvP. Honestly would just like to know if it's actually a gimmick and being in Beta is simply a way of letting people know that's it's slightly flawed and to live with it, or is it actually a feature the PC version is seriously incorporating. (A simple yes or no on the rotation speed would be enough for me).

Thank you :)

    Hmmmm good question.
If I could sway you.....I'd rather they instead make the controller work by default in the default PC UI and move that to consoles and throw away the gamepad UI.

It think the PC UI could use some good change as ppl use so many add-one it never made sense to me why they made a gamepad mode.
Also then you'd have add-on support for pc gamepad use.

This is why, even after the Game Pad UI was added, I continued to use my PS4 Controller via XPadder with the PC UI and just keep a KB/M handy for menu interactions... I have all the necessary and frequent inputs mapped to the controller.

Let's not get hasty here. I like the Gamepad UI, even though it does have the bugs as described. It makes it possible to play and SEE the UI in my living room whereas the default UI is too small for my old eyes to see without being within a few feet of my 55" TV.

    @Ourorboros

    It's been what....more than a year.
To be fair, it's not been embraced but if they had one concise UI for all platforms with options to display some visuals of the gamepad UI and the good of the pc UI it'll be great.

The UI scale settings and stuff would be nice as I played with xpadder from closed beta to 2016 then gamepad...I went full Xbox one as it's clunky on pc cause you still need to type and mouse click stuff

I do wish Gamepad mode wouldn't cause problems with add-ons, but I think that's hoping for too much. At the moment I would really be happy if the camera look could just be adjusted to go faster.

I hope they are working on it.

My biggest complaint is the inventory management system, including interactions with bankers and merchants. On pc ui you can use the tabs to see certain kinds of items (e.g. armour or consumables) but on game pad ui you have one long list subdivided into item types (e.g. potions, woodworking ingredients or swords) which you have to go through one by one. While you can jump forward to the next subsection, you will have to go past every item to see what belts you are carrying. It is a minor frustration that slows down every gamepad player most days.

Also, if you are doing research on the pc ui then you can always see how long the next piece of research will take, even if you don't have any free research slots. On gampad you can only see how long the research will take if you have a free slot, which can make it more difficult to decide what to save for research and what to discard for precious inventory space.

Finally. Please add support for the xbox elite controller. Although we can reassign buttons we can't add new functions to the extra buttons (paddles), and essential functions like ultimates and bashing would be easier if they could be assigned to a single button instead of simultaneously holding both bumper buttons.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

Far as I concern they just turn on gamepad support and have gamepad UI as optional. I like keyboard and mouse but sometimes wish sit back with gamepad. Switch modes a pain as the UI is far from perfect esp picking up items and it displays getting items on wrong side of screen (where chat box is). But its still beta.

I can tell you one thing form the go. It was teased many times on PC and in any competitive PvP games (that is not a console port) - keyboard + mouse will always beat controller. Unfortunately.

And I can say that I enjoyed more playing Skyrim on PC on game controller, rather than mouse & keyboard, so controller support will only be good for eso PvE. For PvP nobody will use it.

I've taken a slightly different route and use xpadder. I did this because to begin with there was no controller support.

I have since tried the built-in controller mode, but I don't like the UI it imposes so I have stuck with xpadder. Of course, I still get the benefit of being able to seamlessly switch between controller and kb&m and in a game like this which is far from being a 'twitch' game, any perceived slower reaction time is irrelevant to my game play.

When it comes to PVP, there is so much lag that, again, the choice seems irrelevant.

Additional benefits of using xpadder are the you can map the buttons and sticks to do exactly what you want. If one desired, you could even setup multi-action sequences, but I didn't say that.

I have always used the Gamepad UI right from when I started playing ESO. I think it does a good job.
I just switch back to keyboard when I need to use a guild trader so I can use master merchant. Other than that I think it works fine. You still have full control over your mouse in gamepad UI so you can click on items in chat etc.

@Tommy_The_Gun thx for the info I will look into xpadder for now. just sucks no native gamepad support esp when I running Windows 10 and the Microsoft (xbox one) gamepad which windows fully supports just the game does not.

@Jim_Pipp Have you tried BetterUI addon? It adds a lot to inventory management. As to research, I run Wykkyd;s toolbar. It works fine in Gamepad UI and has many options for timers. I do agree there should be more options to customize buttons.

I could be wrong, but did the Homestead update not break BetterUI?

Does it have some bugs? Yes. But overall it still works okay. And still a vast improvement over default GamepadUI. Author is pretty good about repairing bugs if you report them.

LOL, I won't mention any names, but I actually know a fairly well-known PvPer who uses a controller and does just fine (most people don't even know he plays with a controller). The mouse only matters in an FPS. And even then, it's overrated. And keyboard only matters in MMOs that let you slot dozens of skills.

Do you have a screenshot of the conversation text issue? I use the gamepad UI, the text is large for me and I never see it cutting off the screen.
