Suggestions for Stamplar Tank?

thelogicalghost
Given the recent rebalancing I'm not sure about builds I've seen elsewhere on the webs so I thought I'd ask here.

I've got an Orc Templar with full Heavy Armor (would prefer to keep that) and maxed sword&shield, and now that I'm past CP160 I figure I should respec for party build. (Previously I was just like "eh this looks fun" picking stuff, because first character.) I want to run as the Tankiest Tank of Tankytown, as in, it would be nice to be able to switch skill bars and run around solo but the priority is group tanking. This is also my crafter so would prefer a build that did not eat all my skill points.

Any advice is appreciated!

I want to run as the Tankiest Tank of Tankytown

Then you have to be a Dragonknight. They're just that much more efficient at tanking than other classes.

That said, Stamplar is definitely capable of tanking, even if it might not be the most optimal setup. Check out this recent guide to Stamplar Trials tanking.

My crafter is a stam DK tank, and it's not too difficult to get enough skill points, as long as you enjoy solo questing.

7-day PVP campaign regular 2016-2019, Flawless Conqueror. MagDK/stamplar/stamwarden/mageblade. Requiem, Legend, Knights of Daggerfall. Currently retired from the wars; waiting on performance improvements.

There is no emoji which captures the sadness I am expressing right now.

Sigh. And I JUST sold off all my stocks of lower level ingots, too.

I'm in the same boat as you, my main and only character is a mag sorcerer with awesome DPS, but I'm tired of magicka and don't want to do the everyone DK tank. So I made a templar and plain to make it a tank.
I know healer would have been better but I'm really tired of light armor and staves.

I don't care if he's not top endgame, I should be able to do all vet dungeons and most trials, and it'll be fun to solo anything PVE and for PVP too.

It would be silly of me not to link my Templar tank build for you.

You don't want to think of yourself as 'stam' or 'mag' as much as knowing how to use both pools. With this build you can tank anything in the game, truly the 'tankiest of tankytown'.

get some heavy armor set, get vigor from pvp (double AP week, best time to unlock your alliance war skill line to get vigor and caltrops now!), then you are good to go.

you need Pierce Armor to taunt and debuff mobs. Low Slash (morph to heroic slash) to debuff mob and generate ultimate. you might also want to use Power of Light to further debuff mob and do a bit more damage.

for healing, use Extended Ritual to get major mending buff even tho we are stam. and use vigor. if your other bar is TwoHanded, then Rally. if dualwield, then bloodcraze. and repentence if the healer isnt doing that.

as for damage, there's only biting jab.

we have templer ultimate to heal in emergency, we can rez 25% faster, we have the only skill that does minor breach debuff. that's all. we dont have good crowd control. but we can tank vet dungeons and normal trial anyway.
