I mean, EDT, EST, whatever other systems self aggrandized idiots out there have created. Pick one and use it, so I can calculate the damned downtime without googling something.

Standard time is what I grew up with, that's what's being used in the current message.
Frankly, GMT I ignore since it is used in NA once every second century.

I know someone who thinks they are smart came up with daylight time, but let's keep it simple,

    That's not how time works State-side, I'm afraid. :p

This isn't just something that some people follow and some don't, making everything into a chaotic dystopia where people are constantly converting between times. It's structured, organized, and government-mandated. In winter, we, as a country, use Standard time. In summer, we use Daylight time. Pretty much two whole countries (U.S. and Canada, with some local exceptions) sync their clocks by the same times, so that when you know you've got to be somewhere at 9:00 a.m., everyone in your time zone agrees on when, exactly, that 9:00 a.m. is. If everyone's following the same standardized clock, then people agree on what time planes take off, and trains are at the station, and a business day begins and ends, and every other thing that keep society running. It just so happens that our universally followed clock skips an hour forward in the spring and reverts back in the fall.

It's as confusing and arbitrary for us as it is for you, trust me. But that's just how it is, and it's not something ZOS has any sort of authority to choose.

Yeah, but this morning they used edt, now they're using est.

I understand the why, I just want them to not flip flop. For example, if they are basing their time out of New York, I know I just deduct 2 hours to get my time.

When they use edt and est interchangeably, it's a bit annoying to those of us with OCPD, even during times when they might be the same. So if the current time of year makes edt appropriate, use that, if it's currently appropriate to use est use that. But don't use both in the same day.

It's not a big deal really, just something I noticed today, and I'm bored with the servers down (AGAIN).

I do know I just deduct seven hours from gmt, but it's easier and faster to just use the eastern US time given.

I guess the little OCD demon in my head just wants more continuity in which eastern US system is written. Using gmt and then alternating between two others, it's superfluous. It's the flip flopping of the first time they give, that is annoying.

Like I said though, just bored because the discount barn servers ZOS uses were down again.
They're up now though, so I'm going to go play (until the next downtime anyway)

    Have fun.

Honestly, sounds to me like this morning's EDT was a typo on the part of whoever posted the times, and they meant EST.

Like I said, the system's just as confusing and arbitrary to those of us who use it as it is to onlookers. XD

    They should pick 10AM EST.

Know why? Makes people goto bed and wakeup early.

Lemme tell you something here, a lot of gamers will wake up around 2PM and stay up all night until 5AM when there parents and friends etc are about to wakeup.

If you pick 10AM EST, people cant camp that timeslot, instead it will even out the timeslots and not have a rush at a certain timeslot. This way dungeon finder will be much better than how it is currently, waiting 45 mins for a dang group because everyone did it at server reset.

    1. Make gamers wake up early and goto bed on time
    2. Balance out people looking for groups since there is no rush to do it at reset

Great feature of Windows 10 is being able to add multiple time zones to the calendar/clock.

EST is 18 hours behind where I live, at this time of year
    GMT is 13 hours behind.

Hold on the emergency maintenance sure no drama...

But changing maintenance from Wednesday to Tuesday to Monday to Wednesday is rubbish wtf is going on?

How are we suppose to schedule trial groups around this kind of randomness? We are in Australia so we are heavily effected with these constant changes.

US EST is very easy for americans who deals with it all the time, its totally confusing for others who would have to google and do math. Current time is pretty well, night in the north and south america and day in Europe and africa so most are at work or school.

You can't just ignore GMT, it's the one timezone all other timezones are compared to. It's easy to work with because of that.

If you don't know what your timezone is compared to GMT, you need to fix that.

I know that when it's daylight savings, for me, I am GMT+13. Easy to work with.

I don't know why they don't just detect the users local timezone and display it for the local user...

Here's some suggestion on how to do that, ZOS. It looks easy:

The confusing thing is that different countries go in and out of daylight savings time on different days. North America begins DST 1-2 weeks earlier than Europe and continues for 1-2 weeks later. Meanwhile, there are times when the UK and Australia are both in daylight savings time despite being in different hemispheres!

At least GMT (or UTC) is consistent.
