Aetheric Cypher

Hi,

I'm kind of new to the game, playing since a couple of weeks, reached cp 160 few days ago, farming some set and maxing the gear crafting. Randomly I dropped an Aetheric Cypher. I've asked around, nobody I know did drop it. I understand it's a really rare, random, drop, that can happen to everyone. So I was actually maybe willing to sell it, the problem is that I couldnt find any information of the actual value of the recipe.

Some people may think that selling such a rare drop may be a stupid idea. It probably is, but as a new non-dlc player, space is short, storage cost a lot of gold, and I guess the recipe would give me enough gold to buy enough xp potion to max a couple of char. I've heard it can be sold for millions.

So my question comes back to : where to find an average value of any game item ? I know some addons can do that, but what about some online informations ?

Thanks.

The average price of Aetheric Cipher is about 2-3.5 million.
I sold the Mythic Aetherial Ambrosia recipe for 4 million a few days ago.
The sale price really depends on how long you wish to wait.

If I would ask any of you of what would be the actual value in real money (euros/dollar) of that much gold ?

I mean, i'm a non dlc player. I didnt wanted to spend so much money buying the game, and I avoided the monthly fee. I was actually wondering if this aetheric cypher could get me a full DLC pack or even Morrowind :D

On the same subject, can crowns be traded ?

Edit : to sell an Aetheric Cypher, guild store or zone chat spam ?

    No.
    Crowns are bound to Account.
You can sell the Aetheric Cipher to other player for gold and/or other items or just give it for free :p

    Edit due to OP edit:
I suggest combining guild store+zone chat.
I received a lot of whispers when advertising on zone chat but I sold it through guild store(a bit of tax yes).

They sell for millions but now that you can buy the recipe for 250 vouchers the price should drop. I would not pay more than 800k for it....

Even of you weren't a new player, you'd still be better off selling it. The potions you can craft using it aren't worth much.

You can find the prices of items being sold on this website: https://tamrieltradecentre.com/

This is only accurate if you are on PC.

For example, the current value of Aetheric Cipher on PC NA is 2 million. However, due to the extremely low supply, you could probably get more than that out of a desperate buyer.

I'm actually curious, cause I used to play Diablo 3 at the time the real money auction house was live. At that time, there was items selling for thousands of euros, before it got out of control and they had to close it. If I was asking, knowing for sure that trading item for real money is illegal, if trading it for game crowns to unlock new DLC was possible, therfor asking for the real price to convert it. I do no know how game crown works, but I supposed it was like Warframe Platinium.

Edit 1 : In warframe, you can either buy Platinium with real money, or farm stuff and sell it from Plat to other people. This way, everybody can finway to purchase with Plat anything in the game store - from real money or farming and trading.)

Edit 2 : What do you do with 4 millions gold ?

haha I love how all you guys just tell him to go to the guild stores.. Maybe some people don't want to spend gold on something and actually farm it themselves... gez you guys worse than a carnival barker trying to get an old lady to play the hammer game..

Hey dude, any mob can drop them, Ive found they best show up ( non dlc areas ) and don't bother farming newb areas, seems drop rate is even less there!!

Ok so some of the areas it has dropped , Deshan , orc area near the town with all the sick diseased people, zombies etc.

Also bankori, check out the harpies, I know one of them ahs dropped it.

    That is a different recipe.

Had a feeling this was the case and they count as different, but do they make potions with the same attributes or are they also different in xp bonus / duration?

Are they also different in the dust you use or can both (the dropped and the one you buy for vouchers) be uses for both?

Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

I think the problem when using area chat is the sheer amount of people who constantly attempt to low ball you. For example, I'm on PS4 EU and got a 112 voucher writ, that only required a 3 trait set piece in bosmer style. Basically anyone had a chance of doing it. Had around 3 guys stating they'd pay 50k for it as they had regularly seen them in guild stores for that. When pushed to show me where, all of them couldn't provide a name and couldn't answer why they hadn't purchased that on instead. Turns out, these things go for considerably more.

I decided to keep it and add it to my accumulated vouchers and bought 5 crafting stations. 5 crafting stations that ZoS are charging 3k crowns for. 50k, I don't f'n think so.

In zone chat you're more than likely to get inundated with low ball offers and people making you feel like you're being a complete greedy spaz because you're not accepting their offer. Their offer so they can then go and sell it in their guild for its true price. Too many chancers out there.

I'd keep it and get the full recipe. The potions only sell for 5k to 7k. But, experience potions are a guaranteed revenue stream that will ALWAYS sell.

People buy 100's of potions at a time sometimes.

In the short term you'll make a lot of gold pselling the Cipher. But you can make a lot more money long term by keeping it. Hard to go broke once you can craft xp pots

Yeah, i get the point, and I checked few days ago in guild store for how much a small stack of a few potions cost : Maybe around 50k gold. I i sell the recipe 4 millions, i suppose to be able to easily live off buying some potions for enough characters (i dont plan to make more than 4 MAX).

The point with crafting xp pots is to actually have all the materials to craft them ; right now, I got NONE, except this single recipe which is obviously useless with rank 2 provisioning (i may have found a bookshelf) and absolutely no time to fish for sure. And I'm not the kind of guys to think about farming > crafting > selling : it's exhausting. I prefer farming > crafting > playing; and keep all mats for own need.

The point is, making this recipe worth as a crafter takes time and investment - and a lot of guild store trading (to find the needed materials). I could make it worth for myself only, finding the right missing pieces and mats : but wouldnt it be easier and quicker to just sell it out and use that gold for already made potions when needing a couple of them ?

I think it's a doubled edged sword. It's like those large lottery wins. Do you take £15m there and then or risk taking £40m over 15 years? For all we know, by time the person begins to reap the rewards from the potions and spends more on the rare ingredient needed, will they still be playing the game? Or even risk ZoS introducing a better method for obtaining the Cipher.

I like almost how everyone ignores the fact that this guy just posted that he wants to look into RMTing his cipher. Dwqrf, you do understand that their is a difference between MMOs that SANCTION THEIR own RMT systems that don't breach their ToS and MOST MMOs that ban gold / item sellers without batting an eye lash, right?

I dont think there is any "reaping rewards." Pretty sure on PC NA, the potions sell for equal or less than what you can get for a perfect roe.
