The larger houses need an item/build increase

Whilst I can see why it was implemented in Fallout 4, especially on consoles, the 600 item capacity is nowhere near enough on the "large" houses in eso. More so if you are not buying the crown furnished option. I'm sitting at around 506/600 on the Mathisen Manor and to say it's looking a bit on the minimalistic side is an understatement.

Looking around the house there are still vast swathes of empty spaces and those spaces I deemed finished are only deemed to be so because I know items are required elsewhere if it's to look like a home. I'm approaching the stage where I'm going to have no choice but to remove trees from around the court yard just so I can further fill the sparsely decorated interior. Believe me when i say nowhere is cluttered. I can't afford to clutter one area. The cap simply won't allow it. I suspect the kitchen area is going to take the biggest hit as furnishings are priority over inane bread, carrot, fish etc models.

The 200 item cap of the medium homes is not doing it for me either.
Had to remove all of the trees and rocks around my home (Domus Phrasticus), just to finish furnishing the inside. So now my inside is somewhat done, but my garden looks like a dark and barren wasteland.

In ESO Live 1/27 they suggested that the item cap is low in order to test performance in the houses. They aren't sure how players might use them, and worried that if the cap was too high and people crammed everything into a closet and then also stuffed twenty humans in there it might cause performance issues. They said they'd watch how things go.

After testing on PTS this is one of the reasons why decided not to buy a large house yet, I'm hoping they increase the limit at some point

I got the manor and it is furnished fairly well and still have 200-300 open spots for items. Are you guys/ girls trying to make your house look like an episode of hoarders?

My Staple Homes may not be large, but the 100 item limit isn't enough either. After I finished with the yard first, I went inside, placed two things and hit the max. Had to do some major weed wacking in order to free up space and find an okay compromise.

agreed. I mean.. I honestly think item cap needs to be increased for all houses, but especially larger ones.

now Velothi reverie is technically a medium house but it does come with 4 rooms PLUS basement, PLUS central giant hall, PLUS decently sized garden. even with ESO plus? my furnishing limit is 400. this basically means that I have to sacrifice a lot of lived in touches, especially like OP mentions - in a kitchen area. Shalidor's library? forget it. that aint happening.

and then... then there is my fave house - Houndings palatial hall. majority of the outside would have to stay untouched, JUST to make living areas look lived in.

the larger the home - the worse those furnishing limits feel. they have GOT to be bumped up.

You are welcome to stop over at my Strident Springs anytime you want to see how empty 600 items can still look. It's the little things that make the place original and interesting that are hurting us with the item limit.

Careful what you wish for. I doubt theyll be adding Housing Item Increases to the game for free. Itll likely be purchased from the Crown Store. And if you think it wont be expensive.

Yeah, that was kinda my impression when I checked the Houses too, the most expensive Houses are just way toooo big.

I think Im skipping the Housing thing until theres something fun like a Castle or Thief Den kind of House. What they added now are just way too basic, not like heroes/adveturers should live.

Try having a manor with only 700 slots huge area and almost looks empty at a cost of over 2 mil more then the large homes and only 100 more slots.

Yep, the item limit is too low. After adding collectables and knick-knacks to make your home feel unique, and then adding trees and grasses to make your courtyard feel alive, there is no item limit left over for anything else. Just filling out the yards of some homes will use up most of your limit. People without ESO+ must have it rough, because I'm way past the non-subscriber limit by now.

If you think you're suffering with a 600 or 700 item cap, think about all those people who don't have ESO+ who have to work with half that number.

You're welcome to visit my house. It's anything but cluttered. For example, in the master bedroom, which is now finished due to the cap, I have 1 double bed, a small carpet, 2 pictures, small chest, a set of drawers and a wardrobe. It's a large master bedroom, not a starter room like the one you get for free.

Well, I need the cap increased when I buy the island. 700 is not enough for anything in such a huge place.

1000 would be really nice in the manors. I hit nearly 400 just landscaping my garden. It looks unbelievably fantastic and should be what the developers are aiming for people to be able to make. It's not cluttered but just a nice full garden.

If they don't decide to raise the cap though the one suggestion I would make is that Lore Books do NOT count towards the cap, or have a separate counter themselves. There are 291 separate Lore Books, along with the 14 or 15 bookcases needed to store them.

Goodbye nearly HALF of your item cap in a subbed manor just to stock the collection. Not good enough.

I was lucky to visit a few very nice homes of my friend list members - they created fantastic, vivid, fully creative and immersive scenarios... and suffered from the same problem: the rest of their property stood empty with no slots remaining.
I also have some plans for an "interactive" setting but when I start building, my slots are screaming under the pressure :)
So I agree, I'd be happy to see the available slots doubled but also understand the concerns of the impact it could cause on the servers. There are a few games out there with greater visions than what the current and affordable technology can allow.

On the player's side I don't think it's about "hoarding" - I see it rather as a method of collecting all sorts of materials which can help expressing creativity a lot. With housing in ESO and with the very own properties this game opened up a well lit highway to be extra-creative and extra-social. And I can't thank ESO enough for that! :)

yes. Most of us want to either a) build cool stuff and have fun with it since it costs so much or b)decorate to look like a place you'd actually want to live (this is me) i've had to spend an unbelievable amount of time brainstorming how to make less look like more in order to do things i want to do which has eliminated a lot of the little touches that make it look realistic instead of like a stage. So i would like to see screen shots of your fairly well furnished manor ;)

I am in the same boat. I "finished" my garden in Domus PHrasticus just to realise that I don´t have enough items left to decorate the interior.
The really should increase the item count by at least e.g. 200 in Domus Phrasticus, and probably even more in large houses.

Just for fun I took one of the promo screenshots ZOS used for the Housing update and counted the items:
it´s 124 just for this pic of a kitchen.

There is just too much interesting gimcrack available as furniture to not clutter some of your space. Just think of all the candles, coins, flasks, books, and so forth that you can place to make your space look comfy and feel alive.

Aye, just enough time to allow some people on here to be suckered in, then call out others with the usual "OMFG, the I want everything for free generation" malarkey who complain about being charged further for something that should be given out free in increments. I now accept why they gave us so little scope to begin with for the reasons others have posted, but you just know any further increase is going to incur crown store slots.

Hopefully I'm wrong, yet we've seen it happen all too many times. So much so, some people think it's fit and proper we should get fleeced for every penny we have.

I haven't really messed with housing yet because of the item count limits. I assumed from the beginning that the limits were probably temporary until stress tested.

Money. Not spending Crowns on furniture. Not spending Crowns on Mundus Stones. Not spending Crowns on limited time furniture to just store it away. Some people buy pets from Crown Store to place in thier homes.
    Sales being missed.
70 books on shelves..... Not removing the books. It took hours to place shelves and each book individually. Books need thier own category or be seen as sets.
Don't know what server issues that may delay and item count upgrade.F.Y.I. many are buying houses with game gold to store the items that they can't fit into thier primary homes. Many of these homes will be abandoned as the items in them are moved to the primary home. These houses will not be forgotten and may generate sales later since they are already purchased but not while they are being used as storage. Good strategy to force sales of other homes but now they need to be cleared out for new items.
Opinion: The people that spend the most money in the crown store on home items have thier houses already full and need more items allowed. Some of these people may lose interest and that means lost money.

    Heck,

My "Modest" kitchen alone in my Gardner House has over 50 items.

To save on item count, I had to complete the Gold Coast achievement so that I could buy the sweetrolls furniture item which has 5 of them as opposed to crafting 5 separate sweetrolls.
