Do you want a unarmed casting?

Hi Community,

something that really bothers me since I started playing ESO is the fact that you have to use staves to play a magetype character. Not because I dislike the skillline system in place but because I always loved the way TES handled magic. In ESO you have the feeling that your staff wields all the power and not your character.
I would like ZOS to give us the possibility to change that by adding Gloves (like in Dark Souls for example) that count as staves.

So like staves we would have Fire, Ice, Storm and Restoration Gloves (that count as staves and are using the same Skillines).

What do you think?

    I would like an Unarmed skill line. A brawler/martial artist type. It could consist of Stamina skills with Magicka morphs.
    Winter-Time
    by Robert Louis Stevenson
    Late lies the wintry sun a-bed,
    A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
    Blinks but an hour or two; and then,
    A blood-red orange, sets again.

    Before the stars have left the skies,
    At morning in the dark I rise;
    And shivering in my nakedness,
    By the cold candle, bathe and dress.

    Close by the jolly fire I sit
    To warm my frozen bones a bit;
    Or with a reindeer-sled, explore
    The colder countries round the door.

    When to go out, my nurse doth wrap
    Me in my comforter and cap;
    The cold wind burns my face, and blows
    Its frosty pepper up my nose.

    Black are my steps on silver sod;
    Thick blows my frosty breath abroad;
    And tree and house, and hill and lake,
    Are frosted like a wedding cake.

    There's been rumblings of a one hand and rune skill line, possibly coming with Morrowind.
    If this is actually real it would be pretty close to unarmed casting. Something I would be pretty keen for.

    All rumours as far as I know however.

    New skill line is probably a meter of time. Since DLCs (Thieves guild & Dark brotherhood) introduced new "guild" skill lines somehow I don't imagine how new Morrowind "chapter" (that is supposed to be more than a DLC) will only introduce new class skills available only to new class (warden). They will introduce a new skill lines available for all classes for sure.

    We can already see that some NPCs use only one weapon (1h sword, the other hand is empty). It could be cool if we could have close - range weapon skills that will scale of with maximum magicka (or better yet - make it to switch scaling from magicka to stamina and vice versa by "morphing" skill). ;)

    I like this idea. :)

    When I saw the subject I had a bunch of concerns - specifically the missing stats and skills from not wielding a weapon, but a non-weapon item would fix that. I don't know about gloves because our characters already wear gloves, and rings so that's out. But some type of item which would serve the same function as a weapon but keep your hands free.

    That would be pretty much exactly what I did in Skyrim a lot of the time - sword in one hand, fire in the other. Of course sometimes I'd dual wield one or the other, but sword & fire was my favourite.

    While I would love to have unarmed casting, I think it's going to be unrealistic for this game to add "unarmed weapon (???)" to be equipped on our mainhand / offhand slot.

    Instead, I'd love to see one hand wands/scepters as well as energy orbs (magicka equivalent of shields) as an off hand equipment so that there is more diversity for caster builds.

    Yes, you can already cast all class skills without weapons.
    Technically you don't need arms to cast eiter, many monsters without arms cast magic.
    However all playable races has arms.
    Perhaps an playable senche?

    Yeah truly unarmed is a terrible idea, but dual one handed casting implements would work.

    I'm not overly bothered either way but it does sound cool to not have a stick on my back. The glove idea is pretty cool.

    We -already- have gloves. They are part of your armor.
    ...
    How-ever... I always disliked that we only get staves... which is why I keep suggesting an different idea - https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/259011/additional-weapon-skill-ideas/p1
    The relevant part:
    Spell Foci - I always felt vexed my casters have to have staves to cast their castyness, I want another option! My idea would be a "Spell Focus" as alternate destruction/restoration magic weapon, that used the exactly same stats, but had different visuals... it would be held in the left hand, with the right making mystic gestures above it for casting, and depending on racial style it could be stuff like holy symbols, ornate spellbooks, meditation crystals, gemmed skulls, shaman rattles, gilded scepters, etc.
    It would not need any new skill line, it'd just be an alternate weapon to the "destruction" and "restoration" lines (much like you can have several choices for your two-handed skill line - Axe, Mace, Sword; no reason you could not also have such choices for destruction or restoration magic, right?)
