What is this "lets buff instead of nerf"- mentality

I dont understand why players always want buffs instead of nerfs when it comes to balance, especially pvp balance. These kinds of buffs are the root cause of power creep, power creep which ruined the once great balance of eso. Power creep is the reason that things in the game get ruined, some examples of this is damage shields being less and less effective as damage increases, its also a reason for everybody going to full tank to survive anything because they made it so any build can one shot.

What are your thoughts on this?

Considering there's a "nerf this or that" thread almost everyday, I would argue that isn't the mentality...

My thoughts are that most people fall into the crowd of "if I use it, then it needs to be buffed" but "if you use it, then it needs to be nerfed."

Also ... people love being walking gods, which is quite easy in overland PVE. When some then venture into Cyrodiil it's generally a slap back into reality.

On every one of those threads theres people saying "but wait, why dont we buff that instead?". This is more directed at those people, i just want those people to understand why we dont "just buff that instead".

There's a simple answer: Working hard to get to the top, only to have something you use take a nerf, sucks. And on the other hand, having something underused in your inventory, waiting to get a buff, only to have it eventually get that buff, is the best thing that's happened to you all day. The reason people have such an aversion to nerfs isn't that they don't want balance, it's that they don't want to be weaker for the sake of balance, and see buffs as a best-of-both-worlds solution.

I'm not saying that buffs are better than nerfs, but I think this is the mentality behind it.

Yeh i can agree this is pretty much theyre reasoning. But like anyone with half a brain cell can see why its bad for the game. Why can't they.

I guess it feels like more of a rant towards ignorance in the community at this point

We get power creep anyways because of new sets and gear.
For dps they need to do better damage than existing or nobody will use them

Nah the majority mentality is usually "nightblades should global people" or "when 5 people are hitting me I should survive because" or "this sucks because I can't 1v3" or "how to solo zerg".

I love when people say things like "I can't 1vX anymore brah" when, in reality, you never should have been able to in the first place.

I once bat swarmed a 1v10 and won. I could have put it online with dub step in the background and proclaim my mad skill brah. Instead I just laughed at how lucky I was to walk into a room where 10 people where all looking the wrong way while I happened to have the only ultimate (at the time) capable of wiping the room ready.
