Homestead update or futile farming update?

After spending several hours farming, I found a handful of blueprints, nothing better than blue. What's the point of making them then the drop rate for heartwood is like 0.0473%?

Are we being pigeon holed to spend crowns on decent furnishings?

I'd say the drop rates are set such that players are more likely to buy with crowns. Afterall zos would like that income.
But if you wait a bit, guild stores will start filling up with materials.

I've found probably 50 blueprints or so, and have found only TWO blue ones in all that time. All the rest were green. Many of the green ones were multiples of the common ones I already had.

They need to seriously raise the drop rate for blue blueprints.

Having spent a couple weeks on this following the PC release, what I can tell you is... give it a little time. Already, the PC grind is feeling a lot less arduous... furnishing recipes, materials, and crafted furniture are becoming plentiful on the guild traders. Certain materials (heartwood, mainly) and recipes are still a bit thin, but you can definitely see that, with a little more time, that will be as affordable and accessible as any provisioning material or recipe.

So be patient. This is supposed to be a long-term system, where you add a little bit to your house every week or so. Some people can spend Crowns to get their houses furnished right away, but if you take the time to earn it, it's a reasonably rewarding system. It just takes some patience to get there.

...Though the drop rate on Heartwood could stand to be bumped a little. ;)
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

This is why it's called a time sink. I mean, do you really want the devs to just hand everything over? You'll be bored within a week if that were true.

A lot of people seem to miss this. You don't have to be finished in a day. Take some time.

Farming for gear is almost compulsory but farming for housing is taking the peas

Console player here, 2 hours I got 7 green, 3 blue and one purple blueprint. Harvesting heartwood, resin, decorative wax and the metal one drop fairly regularly for me. Have not found 1 mundane rune though.

Especially with housing. Decorating is most of the fun, there's not a lot you can do with a finished house.

I've been playing a couple of hours a night since the update was released on PC and I've found a pretty good range of blueprints (they come from the same places are cooking recipes - so you've got more chance of getting them by searching containers than killing bosses), some are for items on my "must have" list, mainly carpets and tapestries, others are things I'd never even looked at but will probably use now I've got the recipe like the wax food - total waste of money to buy from the crown store but not too bad to craft.

The homestead grind is nowhere NEAR as bad as I thought it would be.

It's still pretty rough, but tbh if you loot everything you do okay via casual play--intentionally trying to grind out housing is really frustrating though.
