To fabricate the cup you need to make a furnace capable of melting sand and/or heating clay, thus the wood is used in the frame that houses the furnace. ✭✭✭✭✭My uncle is a old carpenter and he has shown me some weird things when making antique looking furniture for people's custom homes . Like using lemon juice to stain certain woods and tea to stain certain cloths on lamp shades . Wax and plant leaves for finish designs coated in sealants ... It's really cool when they're finished but really strange ingredients .1 -

It is a wooden cup.
