Is Light Armor Viable Now?

This is mostly directed at PVP but feel free to chime in with any PVE related answers. I was mostly wondering if a 5-1-1, 5-2 or even all 7 light armor set up is viable after the new update. I'm on console if it wasn't obvious enough. Also, my main is a Magplar.

I'd like to go back to being an all DPS Templar and, if possible, get away from the proc sets.

I understand the draw backs to being a squishy player but after almost 2 full years I just don't care anymore. Haha.

Anyway, please let me know if you think it's ok to move away from heavy armor lead builds again.

    For endgame PvE, unless you're wearing light armor and equip a Destruction Staff, you're a liability and a DPS loss for the group. #RIPStamDPS

    For PvP, Harness Magicka and Light Armor make a pretty good defensive combo.

    Agree and have certainly done what you said with Harness Magicka. I've been able to DPS a vet trail with a 5-1-1 HA set up but I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

    I guess I was mostly just wondering if the average player's DPS was nerfed enough to allow for more build variety in Cyrodill than the last 6 months. I've read all the natch potes but I wasn't sure how they would translate to actual gameplay.

    I see you understand what I was getting at. Haha.

    I get that there isn't much you can do when faced with 40 enemies but situations like the "horse gank" are exactly what I was worried about.

    Most days I solo but do enjoy surfing a good Zerg if it washes by. Still, I avoid fighting in laggy areas as much as I can nowadays.

    My main Cyrodiil activity is usually soloing resources ... which I'm hearing is quite a bit more profitable then it used to be.

    Pretty much what I was thinking. Have you played the new update on PC?

    I cast a lot of shields on my Magplar and can get him above 45k magic pretty easily.

    No. I use 5 light TBS in pvp. Eats through heavy impen like a Kaijit on Moonsugar. Shadow mundus is the key to defeating impen wearers. They'll learn that soon enough anyway.

    Blackrose also got nerfed a little too so they are slightly weaker but it's still the zerglings armor of choice.

    I use light armour all the time in PvP. Well 5/1/1 Am i a little bit squishy? Aye. But because I run a Templar I just use rune and also the skill from the light armour tree before entering the fray. I find resource management isn't worth the trade off when using heavy armour. If I were to use heavy, I'd go through expensive potions like candy.

    Cool thanks. I've tried darn near ever type of combo ranging from full on DPS to 60k blazeplar and I much prefer DPS. I've found that I basically die about 10% more often for 50% more kills, but the sweet spot seemed to be a 5 HA set up with a DPS loadout. I'm just thinking that it would be fun to go pure DPS again.

    Thanks. I wanted to ask because I wasn't sure how much it felt different post patch. I'm well aware of the drawbacks to each load out pre patch. I never thought that light armor was as much of an instant death sentence as it was often made out to be but I do think that it left much to be desired versus heavy.

    I can't recall any period in the game when Light Armor was not viable. Perhaps the most challenging days were a brief period of a couple weeks after 1.6 update.

    Light armor is still a viable option, but IMO heavy armor is a bit too strong at the moment, offering excellent sustain and extremely high resistances without much of a tradeoff on damage output. (No idea about PVE builds, only commenting on PVP)

    Actually light and medium armor need a buff to be on par with heavy armor atm. Atleast in pvp. Sorcs have shields to stack on top of light armor. Magblades do to but they run 1 shield instead of 2 now days. The dps output from light to medium to heavy is stupid. I mean why should heavy armor users get a 200 wpn/spell buff for being attack. I mean 10 wpn/spell dmg stacked 20 times. Like are you ***. Bring light and medium on par with heavy and you will see a lot of players start switching. I run heavy in group. When I'm solo I run 5 light than 1medium 1 heavy for the undaunted passives. As of right now besides pve there is no reason to wear light in pvp besides a sorc

    I just can't sustain in heavy armor as a magplar, and oddly enough lich doesn't even do it for me. The only thing I have been able to run is light armor and it has served me well this past year.
    The generally amicable yet sporadically salty magplar that may or may not have 1vXed you in Sotha Sil. Who knows?

    Light armor is absolutely needed for magicka, atleast one set of course it is viable, just look at the passives, but it depends on if you run with groups in pvp or not, also with the new mana leach from restoring aura you may be able to get away with not using light armor.

    Light armor is good for every class except for DKs. Although, I haven't tested light armor with DKs since they were buffed.

    Medium armor is only viable for Nightblades that cloak.

    Heavy armor is good for every class.

    Light armor needs a buff against snares, and roots.

    Medium armor needs a buff in order to increase survivability.

    I've been doing 5-1-1 light on my magplar for a few months now, though I do have nearly 30k max health, 2.2k crit resist and over 20k spell resist unbuffed. I am probably going to have to change things up because of the nerf to Trainee.

    LA is fine, best for mSorcs however since they can ward stack and the class is built around ranged dmg.

    MA is fine beat for sNB since the class is built around guerilla warfare style play.

    HA is fine best for DKs and Templars they are classes built around in your face front line warrior style gameplay.

    Don't listen to the trolls that claim heavy deals the most dmg which is a Lie. Or when they claim it grants the most protection which is also a lie ( high armor pen these days )

    Wear what ever you want but imo:

    Mag DK => Heavy armor
    Stam DK=> Heavy armor
    Mag Templar => Heavy armor
    Stam Templar => Heavy armor
    Mag Sorc => Light armor
    Stam sorc => Medium armor
    Stam NB => Medium armor
    Mag NB => Light armor
