Why crown crates? Why not crown items.

The inventory in the crown store is severely lacking. Other than a handful of items, nothing screams "Buy me!" because it's all generic and been there for a year. I get that doing limited time item sales is a make-a-quick-buck approach but still. How many items are in the crates that were a "Only 10 days! Get it now!" And today it's locked behind RNG like that Sharpened Maelstrom inferno staff.

It's scary browsing the items in the crown crates and seeing pretty much five times the amount in the store. If they put these items up for outright purchase, they would get a ton of sales. I personally am not big on cosmetic items, I've only bought one, a hair style, other than that, nothing has caught my eye except items locked behind ZoS RNG, which we have all been victims of already in the game. Needless to say, I would buy some of the stuff in the crown crates but I won't risk my actual money knowing the house always wins, from experience.

"Whales" (people who spend tons of money in the cash shop) spend more money on crates than they would on individual items, because the thrill of getting something unexpectedly awesome is enticing. It's psychology. There's been market research. You can read this topical post if you're interested.

Tried it. 99% chance to get crown potions. Not worth.

i don't do crates, don't like them at all, but i'm always up for sales and limited time items, if it's something i want.

that said, i totally agree with the o/p; there needs to be a LOT more in the store.

(chances are, i'd buy more of it) :)

You would think this would be the obvious answer... not sure why a thread needs made...

It's about addiction. Whenever someone "wins" something there is a release of endorphins. These endorphins are a feel good sensation. When a sound or sight indications is added to this "win", people will keep coming back. Now add this sound or sight indicator to something like crown crates, and people will continually push that feel good button till they die. Pushing that button is money for ZOS.

Well, the OP's point is: "I don't buy crown crates, but I would buy crown items if I knew what I was getting, so wouldn't ZOS make more money by doing this?"

The OP is assuming that all players act as they do, which is honestly a p. natural assumption for most people to make. It's wrong, of course. The RNG aspect makes ZOS more money. But if you're not the kind of person who pays more for that (as OP clearly isn't), then that's not necessarily an intuitive conclusion to come to.
