Steam-Bought Game using ZOS Launcher

My brother recently bought the gold version of ESO on Steam during the recent sale. However, I know that if a game has a dedicated launcher, it is (generally) best to go with that. I also know that there have been some hiccups with running ESO through Steam that didn't happen with the dedicated launcher.

So my question is, if I get him to use the launcher, will it function as if he bought it through the ESO site? Or will it still have ties to Steam, and potentially get the issues that the Steam version has? Another reason for using the launcher, is that I already have the files that I can just give to him to save time and downloads (Aus internet...).

On an unrelated note, I haven't actually been in-game since One Tamriel was announced (E3 last year). It'll be interesting to see what's changed.

I use the ESO launcher only for updating after patch. Normally I use the eso64.exe file (in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client ) to launch the game.

I rarely ever load the game through steam. I usually end up closing steam out all together to help with beautiful lag that has been present since the housing launch. :)

I have been playing ESO to the exclusion of all other games for a year and a half. I don't start up Steam at all anymore. I use the ESO launcher to update the game after patches. Normally I use neither Steam nor the launcher and just run the eso.exe directly. I did not find the 64-bit version very stable, when it first came out, and have stuck with the 32-bit version.

I would like to see a forum thread dedicated to the Steam customers. Our Q&A is scattered all over the internet.

Ok, thanks everyone. I thought this might be the case, but was wondering considering it tells you to link it to Steam during account creation. So wasn't sure how much input Steam would have.

@Jemcrystal Since ZOS doesn't have any ability to make any alterations to the Steam client/platform if there is an issue, ZOS isn't really the best group to talk to about Steam client issues. I think running Steam support questions through Steam is still the best option.
