Help on buying new graphics card

He guys my wifes graphics card has died (GTX 560 ti).
So I want to replace mine with hers (GTX 770 4 gigs) so I can buy a better for myself.

I have i7 4600k with 8 gigs so and need a good graphics card for this. I was thinking of the GTX 1050 with 4 gigs.

I was thinking 3 generations up should boost my performance.

But if I look at some comparisons:

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=3541&gid2=881&compare=geforce-gtx-1050-vs-geforce-gtx-770

it looks to me there is hardly difference between 770 and 1050 with both 4 gigs ram.

When I was younger I new a lot about this stuff but that was in the VooDoo and 3dfx era. Now I just spent to little time on it and I ask for your help. What is a good affordable graphics card which is significantly better then my old 770 ti and is Nvidia as I do not like Api.

thanks.

Id go for geforce 1060 or Radeon HD 480 8 GB (I got that one and am happy, XFX or MSI). Or wait until summer to see what the next chips from AMD do with the prices.

And at this point just remove all classes and have everyone choose their set of skills. then balance accordingly to skills always used vs. skills never used.

You should be safe with anything in the 9 or 10 series.

I have a 980 and can run the game full graphics with no issues even in heavily populated areas when spells are going off everywhere.

    Thanks guys.

My budget can afford the cheapest 1060. The 6 gig versions from MSI and ASUS range from 279 euro to 350 euro. I think I will go for the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GT OCV1. I doubt there will be very much difference between the same chipset from the 279 (clock frequency 1544 MHz Boost frequency 1759 MHz ) one and the 350 (ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1060 Strix OC Gaming 6G clock frequency 1645 MHz Boost frequency 1873 MHz ) one.

Hopefully I can run the latest games for quit some time as I do not want to upgrade to soon again.

The 1060 is really good for its price. However, the 1070 is a huuuuuge leap from 1060.
The 1060 you might want to upgrade in a year when VR and other new techs gets more common.

You're going for ASUS or MSI GOOD. Don't buy the cheaper Gainward stuff. The few euros you save on these cards, is way to much loss in quality for the small difference.

Voodoo! I also tinkered alot with those stuff. Firewire! =)
This new line of GPU you cant just compare what stats and numbers they have. It's important to see what technologies and "stuff" they support.

I'd say go for the 1060, but consider that even 2 x1060 SLI, is not better then one 1080.

Oh, did you say you have 8GB RAM? Thats the best and cheapest upgrade for quite a big boost you can do right there.
RAM costs nothing today and even the "crap" brand, are more then enough.
Get 16GB RAM. (This helps tons with just about everything).

I run I7 CPU, with a 780Ti, and I have Zero lag. Starting to be annoying how many people are annoyed with me that I dont lag when half the server does :p.

    Hope this helps!

Hmm thanks. I might consider upgrading my RAM too.

Are you gaming higher than 1080p? Planning on doing VR relatively soon? Next couple years?

You could save a few bucks with a 3gb card instead of the 6gb. 1060s with 6gb are pushing what? 260 bucks? You might as well save a few more pennies and jump it to a 1070 or 480.

Vega right around the corner, unfortunately for your predicament as well. Should make current prices drop a little.

no, I don't do VR and not higher then 1080. I did have a couple of games that had setting which demanded at least 4 gigs. But it's true, the 3 and 6 have big price difference. I have not decided yet since I have just put my14 year old car for MOT and I need to dig out my garden to remove all clay and put normal earth in it. My choice will depend on how much this is gonna cost me so I will have to wait at least one months :(

    What is Vega?

Vega is the new AMD GPUs coming out. Depending on how they perform (top tier GPU plays Doom 3 at 4K 60fps) it may make Nvidia drop their prices more.

Just not sure if they're releasing these with their new processors next month or we have to wait until May.

If ESO is the biggest graphics hog on your computer, just buy a GTX 750Ti and call it a day. Save yourself some $$.

You don't need a 10xx card. Heck, prior to the 750Ti, I was running on a GT640 and it ran just fine.

    I fully agree with this.

Yep, you can't go wrong with more RAM. I was running on 4GB and it just wasn't cutting it. 8GB gave it plenty of breathing room. The game actually started using more RAM after I upgraded and it ran a lot smoother.

Currently, the game uses about 5GB RAM at any given time.

I own a gaming laptop with a nvidia 1060 gtx. very happy with it.

I can play any current game on ultra without a problem with the exception of Mass effect: andromeda.(Not sure why, newer games play on ultra no problem)

I would go with Nvidia above AMD. it's the better brand, and in my experiencel Nvidia outplays and outlives AMD cards by a mile (or two.)

Well the topic is almost 1 year old, so not really relevant anymore :)

    what I did however was:

    Bought a GTX 1070
Upgraded ram with 16 gig (total 24)

Yeah it was overkill for ESO and I haven't really played other games this year. Except games I could already run like Deus Ex and Doom 1 and 2 online.
