Only place jewelry drops aside from random trash mob loot (extremely rare) and treasure chests for the Zone's 3 sets.

Or the botters and other exploiters grinding xp.

They are usually farming purple jewelry for sets that drop for that zone. They are also good for xp grinds and leveling up the Fighter's Guild skill line.

My character occasionally farms dolmens for two reasons:

    1. Farming specific dropped sets of jewelry.

    2. Excellent opportunity for my healer to practice/refine her 'reactive' skills due to the wonderfully disorganized/chaotic nature of the random skills/experience/numbers of those fighting there. Perfect number for her is 4-6. Too few means she gets too drawn into dps. Too many and nobody gets hurt for her to heal and foes die before her curses do much good. Lol.

It's actually one of the slowest ways to level . The XP reductions in those big groups are not as ideal as a smaller groups with constant mobs to grind . It's popular though . I don't bother telling people that think it's great that it's not . Keeps them out of my grind spots anyways .

If you log 8 characters off various out of the way Dolmen in Cyrodiil each time you log on the dolmen just starts up and it's a good way to farm coldfire siege weapons.

Its not done for mob xp its done for the completion xp for the dolmen. Its the same being in a group or solo but when you in a big group you dont really have to do anything if you dont want. Perfect if you have chores to do around the house. Just every five min or so you have to go to another dolmen.

I do it to level skills so that they can morph, get all of the dolmen achievements, and a bit of xp on the side.

I think some people also use this as a means of leveling the Fighter's Guild skill line, probably not realizing that they can grind mobs of undead much faster.

Aside for seeking out the jewelries, when needed, before I was grinding dolmens for Bal's generals. Now that has been long gone, I only grind XP at dolmens during special occasions, such as the festivals, when we are given double the XPs. It is less monotonous than grinding XPs at Old Orsinium or the likes, such as the "bear group" in Bangkorai.

Also the Fighter's Guild has a daily for 'go smash three Dolmens in zone X'. The coffer has a chance at dropping Draugr Motif pages. Though I doubt that's the majority of the people you're seeing, since it's only 3 dolmens/day/character.

Because people love to Grind to 50 so they can Grind for armor so they can can get to "the end" of the game and complain about the Grind. You know, instead of appreciating the art of interactive storytelling that is video games.

    I'm feeling philosophical today.

I've done it both for boss achievements and the jewelry grind. I think many more do it because it's easy and mindless XP.

I'm levelling a Dragonknight this way, with his skills mostly being Fighter's Guild (I really want Dawnbreaker), so it works out well. I know grinding zombies would be faster, for both standard exp and FG exp, but I've never understood how anyone can find running repetitive circles for dozens of hours "fun". Touring Tamriel closing all the dolmens one by one makes it feel like a grand adventure with purpose, plus there's a lot of achievements that go along with the dolmens with some nice titles.

How does that work? Yes the dolmens are surreal with multiple 24 player groups.
But how does xp get awarded, I thought destroying the dolmen also gave xp.
And yes not very impressed by xp at lest not at prime time

People farm dolmens for a variety of reasons. They do it for: Achievements, experience, and gear/loot. Although, I personally only farmed them for gear/loot. More specifically, epic quality jewelry.

One of the advantages for leveling with dolmens is that when there's so many people you can have a terrible build and not be in much danger of getting killed. That way if you want to level all three skill lines by throwing two 0 experience skills from each category on your bar you can, or level dual wield and bow by putting a bow skill on your dual wield bar, or level up your other armor skill lines that would normally be useless to your build. Dolmens are great for farming XP in circumstances when you need to play it safe.

Fighter's Guild has a daily dolmen quest that gives you about 800 gold once you sell off the loot you get in the coffer they give you. That's a lot of gold for a single quest, although you have to do three dolmens to get it.

    Plus, experience.

Also, if you manage to kill off all the named bosses at the dolmens, you get a dark red dye unlocked.

    Not so.

Levelling to 50 'naturally' (which I've done in this game on several characters) just means you have to change your clothes and weapons a lot more along the way. It's much nicer to just make yourself (or get made for you) a nice set of clothes, a few weapons etc. Then you can play and enjoy the game more easily.

Good point about skills, put an aoe damage or heal on bar and spam it to help.
Found anything but aoe instant cast ablities as pointless anyway as enemies dies at once.
Did an dolmen in greenshade with 5 other players and got 2-3 x the xp I would get from the zerg.
But here I had to fight.

I only do dolmens now on the fighters guild daily. Mainly because doing them is one way to get the draugr motif stuff. I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices on guild stores for them. Plus they're decent enough xp for me that it's no bother unless there's a ton of bots hanging around.
