Personalize tattoos?

Would it be possible, someday perhaps, to allow the user/player to draw their own tattoos on their body? I think it would be awesome to be able to do this - have our tattoos in RL coincide with our toons in game. Then I cringe however as I log into the game and glance through zone chat... I could see how this idea would "go bad" rather quickly with the "children" that play this game. Perhaps exclude the neck and head from having tattoos? It would of course be your call Zenimax as to how you would implement this. I believe it would be a really neat option in the game though.

Cheers

I also like the idea, in theory. But if you read any world news, you will realize that such an addition would lead to some horrifying tattoos. I'll take the lack of creative freedom over seeing the devolution of humanity scrawled all over players' bodies.

    Nice idea, but some problems:
    1. 21st century
    2. people playing
    3. lost of common sense

I see enough of awful tattoos on peoples half exposed backsides, necks, legs etc whenever I leave my house.

Please please please not in this game as well, I play this game to escape from reality

People would effectively be able to draw what they liked, and what isn't offensive in one country, is offensive in another etc. You would get all kinds of political/racist etc statements being disguised as tatoos.

Yea ofc people will do bad things with this and make racist and weird offensive tattoos. So it wont ever happen

    HOWEVER

You sound like someone who is against tattoos. The kind of person who thinks someone with a neck tat is a criminal or a scum bag... which is stupid.

How will this work? You make an tattoo on your character, that is an skin overlay, no problem to make.
However this is an masive multiplayer game, and its no practical way the tattoo image can be transferred to all other users so they can see it on you.
All models and textures are stored locally.

What are ridiculous leap in logic and a warrantless assumption. I have tattoos, and I agree with the person to whom you are responding. What exactly makes them sound like that type of person?

I do like the idea of personalized tattoos in game, but we can't even have personalized avatars on the forum... As a whole we are too childish.

Meh for me, I'm definitely not fond of tattoos (irl or virtual), but I see how people want to have more uniqueness on their characters with them, which is not completely achievable with such limited designs. The black dragon is the "barbed wire in the arm" and "butterfly tramp stamp" tattoo of the EP.

On the other hand, we all know what will eventually happen when players are given the capability to customize stuff in a game in such degree. Moderators would have a lot of extra work to do.

It'd be cool, but I would rather the dev time be spent elsewhere.

I don't really know about the technical aspects and how stuff works behind the curtains but there have been games where you could create your own tabard / guild logo which others could see on your clothes, ships sails, banners etc (Aion and ArcheAge come to mind).

Whether or not it's practical and how they "police" the images in the other games no idea. I'm sure some people of this community would come up with the most amazing stuff.

This would probably cause horrible lag. Since there would be so many tattoos your ssystem is always going to be rendering some new tat instead of just loading the default ones
