Horses are so expensive

Looks like I will be walking for awhile. 42k. I have invested 40-50 hours in the game thus far. I am level 15 and have about 5.6K. Something to look forward to. I am so jealous seeing them ride past me all the time. I am going to grab the horses tail next time.

The Sorrel horse is 10k. The only difference is the color.

Let me guess, another thread in 40 game hours about how slow Sweetroll is and how training is so expensive?

@dbgager Go to a horse trainer, (horse icon on map), and get the sorrel horse.

If you want some gold, pick up raw mats, a stack of any 200 raw mats will sell for at least w/e the gold mat of that type is.

    PS4 EU DC

    Current CP : 756+

I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.

RIP my effort to get 5x v16 characters...

As the Previous guy said, get the 10k sorrel. All mounts are the same other than looks.

Alternatively, if you want to spend actual cash, you can buy a mount from the crown store.

Just the looks. You can raise all mounts to get exact same speed, bag capacity and stamina.

Easy enough to buy a mount from the Crown store as well.

Just color. 10k is pretty easy too get. Just wait until you get too upgrading your mount. 250 per 1 level and 60 per speed Stam and capacity for 180 total. That equals 45k gold for 1 character as they don't go account wide. Worst is its 1 upgrade per 20 hours. Basically 1 per day so your mounts going too take roughly 180 days too max out.

there horses with different starting stats are from the times you had to level each horse and could do so fifty times. So one with increased stats could be increased further than one without.

45k gold over the course of 6 months is not a big deal lol. It can be frustrating to not have maxed horse quickly, but I suggest prioritizing your upgrades based on how you use your horse.

If its primarily pvp, then probably speed and some stamina would be priority. If you just like questing in overland, probably bag space and then speed.

Yup! Or more specifically, you're raising the aptitude of each character not the mount. So the mount can be anything. (Not that that makes a whole lot of sense on paper :) ) The expensive horses used to have slightly better stats and the game used to make you train every horse you buy. Those were the good ol horrific days.

Also you don't need horse to start training your riding skill, it's 250 a day and you should do it everyday, since a fully maxed riding skill takes 180days .

One tip to ease the pain of a slow horse is to go into pvp do the tutorial and pick up the Rapid Maneuver Skill from the Assault Skill line.

They used to have a difference with specific levels of speed, stamina, and carry already researched for you. This was back when they were by individual characters not account wide and the max research was 60 total among all 3 meaning you could have 40 speed and 20 carry then be maxed out; not like today where you can have 60 max each.

Nope they all max out at 60 for each of the three stats. The ones that have a higher starting point just require fewer feeds to get to that 60 mark.

It's insanely hard to get money when you're low level. You'll start earning more and more gold as you level up, though. The real money starts coming after level 40.

It takes a while to get there. One way to earn money when you're low level is to do crafting writs. You can do all six writs on the same day, providing you can gather enough materials for them. It raises your crafting skill at the same time. :)

Yeah, the level thing is what's screwing you up. 10k is actually pretty easy once you're above 50. So, just keep selling the drops you're not actually using, and you should be in pretty good shape fairly quickly. The problem is, you're taking so long to level. Gold drops scale with your level, as does the value of items you vendor, so it stacks up pretty quickly. My advice would be to run the main story quests for your alliance, and that should get you into a place where you can buy a cheap horse in way less than 40 hours.

The ice horse was 3k crowns.

But, no, back at launch the cheap one was 15k (I think), and then the premium ones were... I want to say 60k, but it was probably just 45k. Also you could buy Imperial and Palomino horses for 1g if you had them unlocked.

Yup. I was just pointing out the cost of the horse itself is small compared too the overall cost. I look at it like this.even at lower levels 250g a day is just running a few quests each day that usually dont take long.

Yes, you had one pve horse with all into inventory and an pvp horse with speed and some stamina.

I always forgot to switch horse on PvP guild runs so ended up trailing the group :)

Once upon a time the more expensive horses started off with a single higher base stat than the 10k horse. This was attractive since at the time horses had a max level similar to characters which was much lower than it is now and prevented you from maxing out more than one base stat.

Nowadays they're more expensive for no good reason. They should really all be the same price within the current system. Just another remnant of the many half-hazard abandoned or overhauled systems ESO has.

At level 15, it does indeed seem expensive (even though you can easily earn that if you steal smart and launder the good stuff to sell in a guild store, especially now with people so eager to grab furniture blueprints). After the mainstory through, you'll laugh at how you once thought that a lot of money... ;)

And yeah, the only difference these days is the color, so you can get the brown horse cheap enough. Everything cheaper in terms of gold only comes through the crown store... buy one horse there, have it on every character right from the start (or get the one with imperial edition...). Which is what ZOS are banking on, quite literally... that people often will have more money then patience.

I think the 42k where better when the game had mount feeding instead of riding training back when it had a manditory sub. But since TU they are not better or worse than any other mount.

You guys talking about PC? Pretty sure its always been the same on console. Ive been playing since launch and its always been 60 max for each. And all mounts start at 0. With it being character wide not account.

Yup, all 8 of my characters had to spend ONE GOLD EACH to get the Imperial horse. New players get it without spending any. I want my 8 gold back, ZOS! :P
