Anybody think they should change the lockpicking system

Its a totally reflex hand and eye coordination system. I believe it should be changed to a skill based system. Another skill that you could put points into. Would remove frustration form those that have difficulty with it.

Well, there's already a skill you can put skill points into for it: Locksmith in the Legerdemain skill line. At the top rank it gives you a very good chance of forcing any lock, and entirely removes the reflex hand eye coordination aspect of it.

Personally, even on my characters with full skill points in that, I usually pick locks the traditional way, which I find to be very easy once you get the hang of it. Having said that, if you're lagging or your FPS is low, it can be impossible to pick a lock.

Do the dlc and put points in the passive for thieves guild but otherwise it's fine. I don't farm them but I grab when I see em.

No, and I say this as someone who really struggled with it at first. You get the hang of it. Also, with Thieves Guild passives maxed you can just force locks with an 80% or so success rate.

Now if only I could get the hang from of VMSA. ;)

The skill you're thinking of isn't from the TG DLC. It's in the Legerdemain skill line, and it's been part of the base game since the justice system was introduced.

Absolutely not, The system is unique.

dbgager I struggled at first as well but over time it got easier to the stage now where I pick the lock within 2/3 seconds without even thinking about it.

This one enjoys the challenge of picking that master lockbox just behind it's owner. Where one wrong move could result in capture, or even death from that bank guard stationed a mere 6 feet away. Most PvE and many PvP battles can not be as intense as those 10 - 15 sec employing one's shadowy trade. This ESO is dumbed down enough, would you take away one of the few remaining tasks that actually involves some sort of skills. No, this one thinks not. B)

I'm not young with perfect reflexes. It's not the reflexes that matter as much as practice and knowing what spots it's possible for a tumbler to lock at, and knowing what to watch/listen for, and of course making sure you're not lagging or at low FPS.

Again, though, as I said earlier the skill that you're looking for already exists in the game. You already don't have to rely on your reflexes at all, just rank up your Legerdemain and put skill points in the Locksmith passive.

Agree with this. I hate the lock picking in this game and don't bother with it. The only time i had to use it was to get into someones house for a quest and it pissed me off that a quest had me breaking into someones house to complete it.

@UrQuan has the right answer. Leave it like it is for people who enjoy it as it is and use the lock skills already available to buff your force lock, if you don't want to actually pick it.

I prefer the Skyrim/Fallout 4 style lockpick systems but the one in game isn't that bad. I barely use it anymore with my thieves guild skills, they just auto unlock 9/10 times instantly. Kind of redundant now.

That's my problem, too. It's not even an age thing for me... I've just always had slow reflexes. This means I always have to tap a pin twice (first to figure out where the lock point is, the second to lock it), which is fine for most locks, but Advanced and Master locks are pretty much luck-based.... if the RNG sets most of the pins in the upper two spots, I can get it, otherwise, I have to wait for the chest to reset and try again. Usually this isn't a huge problem, but it gets dicey if I'm trying to break into a lockbox where I have a limited time outside the merchant's line of sight.

So yeah... I like the system in general, but I'd like a passive that gives you a bit more time on each attempt, or something. :p

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

Wait, people have trouble with lockpicking? lol

I think it's fine as is. It's a simple mini-game that's quick and easy. Making it more "skill based" or having to put points into a skill to make it easier would just *** people off.

If you are on PC you can try this addon: http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info909-FCOLockpicker.html

You can have it flash a check mark or change the tumbler color to green at the right spot. It still requires some reflexes but does make it a bit more obvious when at the right spot.

Yes ..thank you. I do have that already. It still is just a more obvious visible clue than the vibration of the pick. The check mark does not give you he exact moment to release the pick. It pretty much appears when it starts vibrating until the pick breaks.
