Hi yall

Im on xbox1 so haven't got homestead yet. Just a quick question. If we can display the mages guild books in our home does this mean that our other characters can read them to level the mages guild skill line?

Try to arrange the books on a bookshelf, in one word: impossible. You have to scatter them.

Is it actually possible to line these up on a bookshelf like you would in other ES games *cough*Skyrim*cough*?

Please tell me they haven't just dumped these in game without considering this and said "that'll do"?

It is possible with some styles of shelving, but it is a royal pain in the ass to get them positioned just right so that you can read them. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on this.

I've just dumped them all on the floor. Bought three sets so that's been a total waste of money :D

I just don't get it, what with this and no "snap to" feature for affixing stuff on the walls, the whole system is starting to look very half-assed.

Where are the weapon racks and mannequins? And the example for how bookshelf functionality should operate was in Skyrim for Oblivion's sake!

I thought this was the whole point of the feature but on PTS found out that's not the point.

No idea who'd go through all the requirements for no return. It's kinda part of the theme that housing is pointless as it offer no QoL improvements. Only grinds for the point of grinding and cosmetic items limited to your owned home.

Not quite. I managed to, in 30 minutes, align 5 books on a bookshelf.

    Time well spent :D

I did it with one book - then found I couldn't actually interact with the book afterwards. I've dumped them on the floor for now, I might check back in a month or so on housing when they've actually finished it - at the moment it's very much half a job. A big job sure, but still not complete it would seem.

What zos couldn't just have a bookshelf work the same as others have done for the previous 3 tes games.... thanks PC Beta testing race. You've saved me some serious gold next week when this launches. Sterling service you provide me with.

Ah, that is what N'wah books are for. Who wants to read something written by a N'wah? No one. Not even their mothers. That is why ZOS doesn't allow you to read from bookshelves; you need a place to store your N'wah books.

To interact with the books, they have to be slightly outside the shelf, like this:

Took me a while to place those books, but you get much better at it with a bit of practice. So now my orc can finally sit down and read:

Is it just an interaction or could my other chars level their mages guild skill line by reading them? If it's just a shelf full of useless books then it's just another reason for me to not buy a house.

It's just an interaction. You only get guild credit reading lorebooks in the wild.

You can buy the books, place them on shelves and read them on any character (I think visitors can read them too) but it will not give credit towards the mages guild skill line.
