Sometimes when you approach them they show no items.
However, it's an UI issue, so /reloadui makes it ok again.

Except that it is not okay to spend much, if any, of my time and effort to constantly reload the UI while I am playing the game. Just wait until you have to do that in the middle of combat. .....Sometimes when you approach them they show no items.
