Is Twice-Born Star bad after the update?

I have 3 gold sets of this that I'm trying to replace but is it super bad ?

Yes unless in optimised raid groups but other sets would outperform it still (imo).

For Stam (if trials groups still allow Stam builds in) TBS is still the best stuff out there. For Magicka DPS, it's all about Burning Spellweave.

Edit: Never mind, forgot about Twice-Fanged Serpent.

Stam just go twice fang, you get a near 100% up time of 5k penetration with decent crit.

Fyi, since the update many people are reporting a bug that they loose their second mundus stone when they go through a loading screen (e.g. change zones), so right now it is really bad.

I had that happen but the second now seems to stick and within cyrodiil too. unpredictable I suspect. no tempers were harmed in this production so I was not completely enraged.

i think this was a half-arsed attempt to fix the recurrence of the 2 Mundas Stone exploit and has now gone horribly wrong

Every post about TBS people refer to efficient Warhorn / Trials only. Whys that?

I don't run Trials that often, so EXCLUDING trials why is TBS doomed after Update 13 (ignoring the mundus drop bug, i'm sure they will fix that sharpish) why the reference to trials each time?

The reason TBS and trials go together is because good raid groups have a high uptime of Aggressive Warhorn which gives Major Force, increasing crit damage by 30%.

Outside of trials, the uptime is lower and other sets will end up outperforming TBS. And now with the nerf to Major Force I believe other sets outperform TBS in trials as well. I don't know the math. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

TBS is not "bad" as in "it doesn't work". You still get decent damage with some extra health. You can still wo msa well with it.
The problem is that it is no longer "best in slot" (or very close to it). It hasn't been for quite some time outside raids (btu was still okay, just absolutely not perfect) and while it has been VERY close (with a nice extra health bonus) in raids, it now isn't there, either - because of the changes to the way multiple increased to crit damage are calculated (now additive and not multiplicative, previously the extra damage from shadow was buffed again by warhorn and trap and no longer is).

On top of that, trap + shadow (from tbs) is now also weeker than before and thus solo play is also a little worse.

Thus, TBS isn't suddenly unplayable, but now there is very little doubt that you can do better otherwise, also without trial loot and probably even crafted (I didn't do the math there and neither did I test stuff). Hence, if you have the set, you can still play it but easily switch to something better. If you're looking for a recommended build, tbs is no longer a recommendation.

TBS was never BiS outside a trial environment.
With the changes to Major Force it will be outperformed by other sets.
If you are the only stam user in your group go TFS if there is an other one preferable a DK (or maybe you are a DK yourself) one of you should go sunderflame, the other NMG.
Those two sets combined are more effective than both of you wearing TFS

The sets argued as better drop via RNG so unless you have a full set of something else, TBS is going to be your frist set more than likely especially if you're a crafter.

There are other things to wear too, so to each their own depending on loot

No. If you want to go full crafted, go NMG for stam and Julianos for magicka.

Ideally crafting wise for magic Templar PvE only
Other than sustain issues TBS with Julianos is killer (mixed with willpower)

My point being crafting until you find things (sustain sucks tho but it's a Templar so I can work around this)

Just remember; a lot of the talk about better/worse is often theoretically. Numbers on the page, numbers in the game, but in terms of actual game-play having a set that is not perfect is not going to make or break a build 99% of the time.

Far more important are what skills you use and when in battle. Far more important.

Julianos was always better than TBS outside of raids. This patch it's better in every scenario.

@Faulgor Julianos is almost BiS for magicka at the moment.
Burning Spell Weave for is only marginally better as you don't get that good of an uptime of its effect.

Going with Julianos definitely is the best choice for most people.
It always was and still is a more than decent set and is worth being upgraded to legendary (if craftet in divines)

I don't understand why 9-trait gear was so nerfed. It takes months of research time and hundreds of mats to craft.

Surely it should be the superior gear set?

@j_s To my knowledge it's: Twice-Fanged Snake, Night Mother's Gaze, Kra'gh, Velidreth, Maelstrom's Bow, Maelstrom DW, Spriggan, and Vicious Serpent. I may have missed a set here and there, but those sets are considered optimal for trial runs.
