So I think everyone can agree that magicka weapon choices are limited at the moment, especially with the changes to dual wield spellpower. Polearms are also one of the most requested weapons for the game since launch (up there with spears). Magicka melee weapons are also practically non existent now.
Going off of the idea that a polearm is essentially a staff affixed with a blade, what does everyone think about implementing them as a new hybrid weapon type?
The polearm would have basic melee attacks just like 1h, 2h,and dw, but would restore both stamina and magicka on heavy attacks (half each what the other weapon lines restore). Attacks would also each consist of two hits on the target - one dealing physical damage and the second dealing magic damage, with each based on your weapon power/crit and spell power/crit respectively.
Such a weapon would be a little less effective for pure magicka or stamina builds, but would work brilliantly for hybrids who focus on both sets of stats.
Abilities in the polearm skill tree would each have a magicka morph and a stamina morph with different effects, allowing you to mix and match resource usage. Some attacks, particularly those based on magicka morphs, might have more range to them akin to launching Magic from the staff end of the weapon, while the stamina morphs would knockdown or daze enemies with sweeping attacks using the bladed end of the polearm.
