Much as I expected not to care about Homestead, I have to say it's growing on me. Is it a cash grab? Sure. Are way too many parts of it locked away behind a practical paywall? Yep. And yet, seeing all the creative stuff people have done with their houses (one of my guildees made a great obstacle course, for example), plus the undeniable fun of playing around with the housing editor, I can definitely see its appeal.
So far, I've bought two small houses and am well on my way to furnishing one into a cozy little home. I haven't spent a Crown and don't plan on ever spending any. But I've still managed to farm and buy enough blueprints and materials for a nice start on furnishing my place the way I want it. The only real annoying paywall I've hit so far was having to hack a functioning fireplace (since apparently you can only buy the flaming logs in the Crown Store). But a well-placed brazier and some firewood does the trick well enough. I'm actually starting to really like my place, though I've still got a lot to add. Plus it's nice to have houses in convenient locations that I can teleport to anytime.
And my guildees have been having a blast with the new guild house too. We had a house party last night where everyone had decorator privileges and hilarity ensued. Building a diving board off the side of Daggerfall Overlook? VERY fun. But even more fun is what ensues when a guildmate realizes they can remove it from beneath you and replace it with a horse.

And seeing stuff like what Elloa and others have done with some of their homes is amazing. I love her HGTV-esque video on what she and her friend did with the outside of Autumn's Gate:

I'm sure there will be a lot more videos and comments on what crazy stuff people come up with.
In short, I'm definitely liking Homestead way more than I ever expected to. And I'm not above admitting that I may have judged it too harshly before I got to actually try it out.
