Explaining how gear cap and scaling work

I see a lot of people asking for a gear cap increase because they want to feel "stronger".

This isn't how ESO, post-One Tamriel works. With scaling, you can't get stronger. The gear cap could be 160 or 160,000 and you would still be doing the same damage to mobs in Stros M'Kai.

This is because of SCALING. Unlike in other MMOs, mobs scale to your level in ESO. This makes it impossible to increase your power through a gear cap increase.

All a gear cap increase would do is force you to re-grind all your gear. It would have no impact on your damage dealing potential.

I hope people think about this before they ask for an increase.

is that true though...wouldn't your gear statistics rise with the increase in cap - old 3 item bonus from cp160 gear: plus 124 weapon damage would possibly become 140 weapon damage for cp 180???

Is not the mob scaling capped at cp160?
Yes harder content is harder so you could not do an hard veteran raid as cp50 even with good gear.

Increasing gear cap to 170 would not automatically make content harder as the scaling just use your level not your gear.
If they both raised the mob cap and gear cap game would be harder.

And the problem for people who has worked a year for the perfect gear is not gear cap its the new gear who comes with Morrowind and later dlc some of it will be better than existing, if its worse, that is the point?
Now they need to farm the new content for the best gear, for sets they need all of it before replacing.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Yes, but mob health and resistance would also rise by the same amount, completely negating any stat increases from your sets.

Mob scaling is capped at whatever the gear cap is.

This is an design choice, and it makes sense.

True, it would help a bit in pvp if you was fast to upgrade.

Note that this will not matter much for Morrowind as we will get lots of new gear who is better than existing, if its not better people will not work for it,

They are raising it to lv 170 and for ever body that has lv 160 gear it will be bumped up to 170.

Well, that would serve utterly no purpose.

The entire point of raising the level cap in most games is to reset the endgame players' gear progress. Bumping them up would serve no purpose.
