Burning fireplaces and interactive furniture?

Homestead newbie here, so bear with me. Okay, so I bought a stack of rough firewood for my fireplace and I also crafted a bench for my living room (I think it's technically a kitchen bench, but whatever). But the firework doesn't give me the option to light it and the bench won't let me sit on it. So how do I get a roaring fire in the fireplace and get the bench to let me (or someone else) sit on it when I'm out of edit mode? Am I missing something?

Put a brazier below the pile of wood, ta-da, fire in the fireplace.

Fires are confusing. You can't just buy some wood, put it in the fireplace and set fire to it. Only specific fire items will work. You can tell which ones they are because they say 'Interactable, Light' in the description.

As for the bench it depends on where you place it. You need to put it flat on the ground (use right-click to align it to the floor) and make sure there's enough space in front of it for your character to sit down. When it's in the right place there should be a green glow around it.

Apparently not. Guess I'll have to use Pchela's trick.

Thanks for the tip on the bench. I got it working.

I was also confused by this - and by the lack of a cooking fireplace insert. There is an interactive cooking pit you can build outside, but I haven't been able to find one that fits in the fireplace.

There is an interactable furnishing called Flaming Firewood. I saw it in a guild store selling for over 100k. So I didn't buy it. Instead, I bought a regular stack of half-burned wood for 100g, crafted two Daedric Braziers, put the wood in the fireplace, and put the braziers in the wood. It probably works better this way than the Flaming Firewood would have.

I always wanted to burn all my houses down in the game. Or have an option for more interactive building.

And every building should have a door that works. I hate running passed a building and you can't enter the building.

Flaming Firewood is part of some of the houses when you buy them. Since there are no other sources for it and it's high in demand the price is pretty high.

Don't worry. You can buy a cooking fireplace insert from the crown store now for the low price of 2700 crowns. -_-

You can also buy it from the crown store for 80 crowns.

I know not everyone wants to spend crowns on furnishings, but it's an option.

80 crowns times 400g is 32000g for a fireplace. Still cheaper than buying the unfurnished house for 64k that comes with a fireplace.

I must be missing something here. The question was how the OP can get burning firewood in their fireplace. I said you could buy Firelogs, Flaming from the crown store for 80 crowns (as an alternative to the options already mentioned).

Why do you need to multiply that by anything? Especially a seemingly arbitrary amount of gold?

An alternative for a more open fireplace that I often use is an indoril brazier pushed into the ground and a regular provisioning station on top. I used to have to put a stone or a bucket in the center of the brazier and place the provisioning station on top so it can be interactive.

That's a lot of stuff stuffed into a Snugpod. :o

I'm planning a similar set-up for the interior of Autumn's Gate (minus the mount), with a tribute to Hircine in the courtyard (but Shhhhhh! That part is a secret.)

Why is that sweet roll sparkling, though? My sweet roll doesn't sparkle. (and now that I've typed that, I feel like I should add a disclaimer stating that it's not a euphemism.)

That is a specific furnishing called the "Resplendent Sweetroll".

For those complaining about crown prices for provisioning stations. They are also widely avaliable in guild stores for 25k Gold.

Most crafting stations are this way (minus transmute and jewelry).

I prefer using the Nord Triple Torch and Logs to make my fireplaces. This allows me to make the fire small or large and relatively customizable in its blaze strength.

There is a provisioning station from the new life festival that comes with a hearth and burning logs like you are looking for, but its in a 4k crown pack that can't be broken up.

It's literally exactly what you want and it doubles as a cooking station.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

The fireplace version, not the campfire, is crown store exclusive. It is either in a 4,000 crown furnishing pack or is 2,700 crowns by itself. It is not the same as what you can get from the writ vendor/guild stores.
