Master Writ Droprate?

Which dev do I tag to ask about how much motif knowledge, trait research, and achievement progress influences the drop rate of Master Writs? On my main I have every motif and trait except the ones added in this patch, and all the crafting achievements except the ones added in this patch, but I haven't gotten a clothing, smithing, or woodworking master writ for all 3 days. Do they not drop if you already have a master writ in your inventory (but not accepted)? Are we talking about the difference between a 5% droprate and a 10% droprate between a scrub character and a true master crafter? I've simply got to know.

I've got no clue on the math for how the achievements affect the drop rates, but I've done 144 max-level writs (a mix of ones on characters with every possible achievement etc that affects the drop rates, and ones on characters missing many of them) since the update, and I've earned a whopping 5 master writs that combined are worth 14 writ vouchers. :'(

It's all about RNG. My 100% crafting achievement crafter (a good standard of measure) has gotten 3 Master writs in 3 days. Drop rates seem all over based on other threads, but having 100% of achievements helps but is no guarantee.

If your after something specific, have heart, you only need one big pop.

After 100 writs I was beginning to think this was going to be a never ending grind. After about 150 writs, I had that sinking sensation you get when Ben and Jerry's ice cream is banned from the house. I had only received 3 master writs, each worth 6 vouchers or less (12 vouchers total) despite 5 or 6 crafters only missing yokuda and draugr achievements. Then, at around the 150th writ, a 263 voucher master writ popped. That was enough to buy whatever I wanted.

All I wanted for xmas was a target skelly for my guild so I can feel elitist by kicking anyone with less than 2k DPS. The power, THE POWER!!!!! NEXT MONTH I WILL DOUBLE IT AND REQUIRE 4K DPS!!!!!

I get 1-2 master writs each day, so the drop rate can't be all that low.

I don't think the achievements matter as much as the number of rare motifs known. I've gotten master writs on 2 out of 3 days since launch. The second one is worth 93 vouchers - I just lack the motif.

144 max-level writs has netted me 12 master writs for a total of 35 vouchers. They do seem to drop more frequently on characters with more traits / motifs / recipes known, but they do still drop sometimes on my less-knowledgeable characters.

I think it's very like Glass fragments. It gives you 0 to 2 each day after you complete 6 normal writs.

3 characters with only provisioning, blacksmith, cloth and wood maxed, (2 have enchanting maxed), no traits researched, all blue motifs known and a few rare purple pages known. Did those 3 writs for 2 days on those characters = 18 writs

1 master crafter, all traits researched, all crafts maxed, every motif in the game until this update known except Draugr and akaviri. Did all 6 writs on him for 3 days =18 writs

36 total writs got me one master writ on the master crafter worth 2 vouchers.

    Drop rate is too low

Sorry if I tagged the wrong dev, but I remember you're one of the lead systems designers! Or THE lead systems designer, it was something like that. Anywho, are you allowed to give more exact info about the change to drop rate based on different achievements, traits, and styles? Would be a big help! Based on the variability I'm not totally sure if these are writs designed to drop for master crafters, or if it's just designed to be completed by master crafters.

As far as I can tell, the rate is 0.

Well, people were scolding me in the PTS forums for suggesting to get rid of the RNG merry-go-round, because that would take away the goodies from "dedicated master crafters". I thought being able to complete the writ and get all those nice vouchers would be reward enough, but apparently some people actually like the RNG fest, as long as they think somebody else will get less than them.

I don't mind a little RNG as long as there's an actual guarantee that things will average out, but with a system that's pure RNG this does not happen. Even weighted RNG is still pure RNG when it comes to how it behaves at the extremes, though the odds of getting poochdrivered become excessively small when the chances are high. It's only been three days so I can't be totally sure, but it does not currently seem like the chances are high enough to avoid poochdrivering.

I'm 30 writs in and still nothing. Over 2 characters, 1 of which is my main crafter (max traits most motifs).

Yet I had a friend get 2 the first night from 9 writs.

I'm not lucking out with fishing trophies or paintings from treasure chests so I'm starting to think I need to sacrifice some sweetrolls to the RNG Gods again.

Before you waste a lot of time or treasure maps, I heard that there is currently a bug that prevents paintings from dropping in treasure chests.

They are not going to tell us the drop rates for Master Writs.

Because we'd be so disgusted we'd just stop bothering; and that would make Homesteads a huge waste of resources.

I've gotten two paintings from normal treasure chests so far, but I've also opened about 100 of them in the last two days. So they drop, just rarely.

    @Enemy-of-Coldharbour

I honestly can't tell. I've seen people try to sell 60-voucher writs for 450k and 100-voucher writs for 250k, but never seen either sell. They were still spamming zone chat a day later with the same writs. Yet I know some folks have already obtained the target skeleton plan, so like, clearly some people are buying them, I just don't know for how much.

I'm running 20 characters a day through Max level writs and I'm keeping track of how many writs and the amount vouchers I get daily by each writ category. Once I get more data I'll post my numbers.

In three days have already gotten enough vouchers to make a robust and normal target dummy. I'm actually surprised how high the drop rates on master writs has been. .

I have spent an insane ammount of time, effort and gold to get all the crafting achievements. I have all the crafting passives except snake blood and the trait learning ones, which I don't need anymore. I bought all the recipes I could find - I have all the green ones, all the blue ones, and all but two of the purple ones. As a result, I haven't saved any gold for buying the houses I'm most interested into. My reasoning was that I would get a significant advantage in terms of master writs. So far, I have got 3 master writs (alchemist, smithing, clothier), for a grand total of 18 vouchers. I know people in my Guild who aren't maxed out in crafting, and who got sealed writs too. For more vouchers than I got. I see people selling high-end voucher material already.

I had hopes to earn gold fast enough after the update to make up for my lack of savings, thanks to my previous investment in crafting. Actually, people are farming so much that in less than two weeks, the prices of blueprints, praxes and the like will probably match that of ordinary recipes, while regular mats seem to keep dropping. At that rythm, it'll probably take me forever to buy a house. Let alone furnish it (It would probably take more than a month to gather the necessary mats, by doing only that - and then there are the blueprints).

As far as I know, after three days, which are admittedly too few to have a precise idea of the matters, the gain in drop rates for becoming a master crafter is absolutely unnoticeable. And it does not even seem to affect the quality of the sealed writs we recieve.

In those circumstances, to say that the enormous ammount of effort that I did to become a master crafter seem to be "not so useful", would be a bitter understatement. What I feel is that it was actually a total waste of time and gold.

I hope the coming days prove me wrong. Because if it lasts this way, I think my enjoyment of the game might be severed.
