Unless.. he must have a very good poker face, then. As a typical skeptic, I called bs! Of course, no proof of any gold jewelry pieces were linked up to chat. However, that got my brain spinning a bit, since the treasure hunter increases the quality of drops from within the treasure chests. I haven't, until recently, used that option. I decided, for giggles and grins.. why not. Let's see if it is possible for a master chest to have a gold jewelry piece, when using the aid of the treasure hunter option. Can this myth hold any weigh? (Of course, only ZOS or the developers would know.. and "no" is likely the answer.) So, for the past few days, I have been having loads of fun going from chest to chest, and getting better drops than I normally would. I actually have been getting more purple jewelry pieces from both advanced and master chests than from grinding/farming dolmens; plus others high end armor and weapon pieces. I even got a purple sharpened Spriggan dagger from a master chest (sadly, no sharpened sword from the chest yet.) Been throwing those on traders and making bookoo bucks. Well.. so far, I'm going to call this myth, "busted!"
So what do you guys think? Normally, a purple item will only drop from a master chest, but, with the treasure hunter option, purple items are dropping in advanced chests, to include purple jewelries. So, if items are being upgraded in advanced chests, why not the upgrades in master chest's items? It can still be a rare drop, but why not a gold jewelry, weapon or armor piece, here and there, from time to time.. yeah?
Gold spriggan jewels doesn´t exist, end of story
In my experience, Treasure Hunter does improve the loot you get from Treasure Chests. But, it has never given me Gold Items from a chest.
With the Passive
Simple Chests give a better chance to get a Green Set Item, but this is not a guarantee
Intermediate Chests will drop a Set Item, frequently in Blue, sometimes in Purple
Advanced Chests drop a set item frequently in Purple, but I have pulled a Blue from them
Master Chests, it's always a Purple Set Item
Without the Passive
Simple Chests rarely if ever give a Green Set Item, (I can't remember the last time it happened)
Intermediate Chests frequently drop a Set Item, but not always, seems to be a mix of Blue or Green.
Advanced Chests drop a set item frequently in Purple, but I have pulled a Blue from them (this is about the same as with the Passive)
Master Chests, it's always a Purple Set Item (this is about the same as with the Passive)
This is based on about 250 Chests with the Treasure Hunter Passive and many hundreds without. And, with Chests found in the world, and the ones that come from the Maps. Note, I have not opened a Treasure Map Treasure Chest on a character without Treasure Hunter so I don't know what those drop sans passive.
How would the Treasure Hunter passive change chest loot in Normal or Veteran Maw of Lorkhaj?
Been farming for lots of gear. Even after completing vMoL HM I still don't have a single sharpened shock or inferno Moondancer staff. -_-

Are the chests in the Trials Treasure Chests or Reward Chests? If Treasure, then the passive applies, if Rewards, then no.
And, the Treasure chest passive has nothing to do with Traits, only if you are going to get a Set Item, and what level of Improvement it is. I have pulled plenty (about 12% of the time) of Purple Prosperous Set items from Treasure Chests.

Same here, 3 of my 4 mains have the treasure hunter perk and collectively opened well beyond 10,000 chests and i have not seen a single golden weapon or armor.I have had this perk on my farm chars from the get go. After maybe 10k chests opened without exaggeration, I think my sample size is large enough to state that gold pieces from chests is utter myth.

Well you find both in Maw. You do open chests with locks on them, so I assume those are Treasure Chests? If so, they should benefit from the passive (I think...)
