MYTHBUSTING Treasure Hunter..

So, a certain chap mentioned on zone chat that "you can even get gold (Spriggan) jewelries from master chests with using the treasure hunter" option. He doesn't sound too jokingly. Unless.. he must have a very good poker face, then. As a typical skeptic, I called bs! Of course, no proof of any gold jewelry pieces were linked up to chat. However, that got my brain spinning a bit, since the treasure hunter increases the quality of drops from within the treasure chests. I haven't, until recently, used that option. I decided, for giggles and grins.. why not. Let's see if it is possible for a master chest to have a gold jewelry piece, when using the aid of the treasure hunter option. Can this myth hold any weight? (Of course, only ZOS or the developers would know.. and "no" is likely the answer.) So, for the past few days, I have been having loads of fun going from chest to chest, and getting better drops than I normally would. I actually have been getting more purple jewelry pieces from both advanced and master chests than from grinding/farming dolmens; plus others high end armor and weapon pieces. I even got a purple sharpened Spriggan dagger from a master chest (sadly, no sharpened sword from the chest yet.) Been throwing those on traders and making bookoo bucks. Well.. so far, I'm going to call this myth, "busted!"

So what do you guys think? Normally, a purple item will only drop from a master chest, but, with the treasure hunter option, purple items are dropping in advanced chests, to include purple jewelries. So, if items are being upgraded in advanced chests, why not the upgrades in master chest's items? It can still be a rare drop, but why not a gold jewelry, weapon or armor piece, here and there, from time to time.. yeah?

Myth...no gold anything drops in the treasure chests. I'm all for future inclusion in Master chests though.

Of course.. but why not?! That is the question for ZOS and the developers. Why not have a gold piece here and there in the chest, when you're using the treasure hunter option..

Master chests can drop blue pieces. With TH epic is much more likely or even guaranteed?

I have had this perk on my farm chars from the get go. After maybe 10k chests opened without exaggeration, I think my sample size is large enough to state that gold pieces from chests is utter myth.

Also, a purple drop is ensured for master chests, but it may be a non-set item (very rarely).

There may have been instances of advanced chests not dropping purple, but very rarely. They do have a higher chance of a non-set item being the purple drop, though.

A set drop, usually blue, is guaranteed with intermediate chests, and rarely these can contain a purple piece, set or otherwise.

Simple chests have a roundabout 50% chance of having set items, may be as low as 33%. I have no recollection of a purple piece, set or other, dropping from simple chests, but am not sure about this.

In my experience, Treasure Hunter does improve the loot you get from Treasure Chests. But, it has never given me Gold Items from a chest.

    With the Passive
Simple Chests give a better chance to get a Green Set Item, but this is not a guarantee
Intermediate Chests will drop a Set Item, frequently in Blue, sometimes in Purple
Advanced Chests drop a set item frequently in Purple, but I have pulled a Blue from them
Master Chests, it's always a Purple Set Item

    Without the Passive
Simple Chests rarely if ever give a Green Set Item, (I can't remember the last time it happened)
Intermediate Chests frequently drop a Set Item, but not always, seems to be a mix of Blue or Green.
Advanced Chests drop a set item frequently in Purple, but I have pulled a Blue from them (this is about the same as with the Passive)
Master Chests, it's always a Purple Set Item (this is about the same as with the Passive)

This is based on about 250 Chests with the Treasure Hunter Passive and many hundreds without. And, with Chests found in the world, and the ones that come from the Maps. Note, I have not opened a Treasure Map Treasure Chest on a character without Treasure Hunter so I don't know what those drop sans passive.

If they do, it's exclusively as part of The Golden's potential item pool. There's no other possible source at present.

Until it comes to Cyrodiil Vendors which will happen eventually, where it DOES exist, same as any other gold set in the rotation.

No gold jewelry from master chests, but iirc with treasure hunter it moves you up a level of loot over not having the passive e.g. 50% chance of purple set item in advanced and 100% chance of blue set item in intermediate becomes 50% chance of purple set item in intermediate and 100% of blue set item in simple (percentages are for illustration purposes only).

How would the Treasure Hunter passive change chest loot in Normal or Veteran Maw of Lorkhaj?

Been farming for lots of gear. Even after completing vMoL HM I still don't have a single sharpened shock or inferno Moondancer staff. -_-

Are the chests in the Trials Treasure Chests or Reward Chests? If Treasure, then the passive applies, if Rewards, then no.

And, the Treasure chest passive has nothing to do with Traits, only if you are going to get a Set Item, and what level of Improvement it is. I have pulled plenty (about 12% of the time) of Purple Prosperous Set items from Treasure Chests.

It does improve the quality. When farming mol was popular a few weeks back I got 2 purple rings from one simple chest. Good farming was certainly had that weekend.

@spencer2361 I almost said that myself but....

Yes, I think that is the case. Master Chests, and to an extent Advanced Chests, do give out more stuff. I just have not opened enough to say definitively you get more than one set item. And if this only applies to Advanced and Master with the Passive or not. Not enough testing on a small population sample.

Oh to be able to look under the hood of the RNG tables and factors in this game.....

with the TH passive I always get a set piece from simple chests. Basically, if the item exists on the loot table, you can get it. I dont think gold jewelry exists for overland sets outside the cyrodiil vendor.

Advanced and master chest do drop two set items, sometimes.
Only one of those will be a guaranteed purple with the passive, though.

Learned it by opening a stupidly high amount of chests farming for the very, VERY useful Trainee set.

There's no argument to be had - the devs confirmed that the passive won't give gold jewelry. In fact they've explicitly listed the only methods of getting gold jewelry. More than once.

Also, Mythbusters are morons. Not the best thing to put in allcaps in your title. Or anything in allcaps, actually.

I got a painting from an Intermediate and a Master chest yesterday. I wonder if the passive improves the "level" of the paintings? The drop rate certainly seems ok given how many I've seen for sale in zone chat.

Yep, if you unlock it, its a Treasure Chest. And, the loot tables for those should include the set items that drop in that trial, like the Group Dungeons have. So, yes, the Treasure Hunter Passive should work on those.
