Lack of furnishing preview = not happy with Homestead ... at all

OK, so I've bought a house. It's empty. Now what?

I could buy some basic furnishings from the vendor in Davon's Watch, or was it Ebonheart, that the quest pointed me to. Could I see what I was buying? Nope. Ever heard of window shopping? Even if I buy stuff on Amazon, say, I can see pictures of what I'm getting. Not here, and that's a big problem for me. I wouldn't mind a bed, but I do want to see what it looks like before I buy. And some lighting.

My main has all crafting fully levelled and all traits researched. Of course she has no schematics or whatever you need to make furniture. How do I get those? I've seen them in guild stores, but where do they come from in game?

I've never been one to do crafting writs. I just find them boring beyond belief. Deltia mentions Master Writs to get some "cool stuff", such as the target skeleton schema. Is that the only way to get schemas?

Am I going to end up researching all this stuff on the internet? No doubt the databases at the usual web-sites will be updated with furniture pictures, there will be YouTube videos, and so on. It's just ... where's the fun? I want to play the game, not scour the internet for information.

Am I missing something ... no doubt I'm missing something in a big way ... or is this just a really, really *** update?

Wardrobes, drawers, same places you get food recipes.

Pretty much. I think it might be possible to buy them off someone else.

I think a start point is reading the patch notes.

I appreciate you may not like the idea of that, and want an tutorial for each change. However as a Pc player of a MMORPG id say its got to be at least a bit expected to read up? I mean, you are on the forum already.

I'm console, and have said repeadtly what you are saying as most console players, new to MMO, are not used to going online to read stuff. So they miss out. Alot expect hack and slash and get frustrated / leave. Patch notes SHOULD be on loading screen

However some of your questions are right there in the patch notes

ANYWAY, I digress. One thing I wholeheartedly agree with and why I opened your post, is the preview. And not just for furniture, its been missing from armour crafting from the beginning. Huge problem.

I have to confess, I have only read the patch notes in regard to combat and gameplay, since I'm mostly into PvP these days. I'll go over them. Bit miffed to be referred to as a "hack and slash", but I suppose it's accurate .

The item list is awesome, but how do I get those things in game?

I quite like the idea of having a house from a role-playing perspective, but I guess I'm tired of the whole grindy MMO experience. I used to have Lego as a child. I could spend hours just building stuff, and I think I might be into that. But what do ESO want me to spend my time on? It looks like it's going to go on grinding the materials, the furnishings, the schemas. Ugh. Yuck.

Yesterday I bought "Light of Meridia" from a vendor in Coldharbour. The picture looks like some kind of wooden chandelier made of sticks or something. Thought it looked like an interesting lighting piece. So I bought it for 10,000 gold.

Turns out it was giant a blue crystal. Like a huge soul gem. WTF! Preview needed! The little drawings are not good enough!

That site will be great once pictures are actually uploaded. The 5 that I clicked on had no associated pictures.

yes, that is the missing thing, and not just for furniture, this game need a preview, of weapons, armors, furniture, everything!!!
it should have been there from the start already!!

The annoying thing is there is a system in the game to preview furnishings, but it only works when you're buying from the crown store or looking at furnishings you've already bought before you place them, not when you buy them with gold.

I had assumed when this update was on the PTS (and the preview system was still being created) that it would be available everywhere on release, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Pretty much the same as then you craft gear or buy it from auction.
Only place you get an decent preview of gear is in the crown shop. Here it amazingly show item on your character.
More fun in that you have an furniture preview as part of the furniture placement menu, here its pretty redundant as you can just try to place it and see how it looks in the house.

I didn't have enough time yesterday to try this out but is there really no preview option for furnishings before buying it with gold or crafting it? It should have been from the start... I want to know how the thing looks like before I buy it....

Everything can be previewed in the Housing Editor, so if there's not a preview at crafters/vendors yet, that at least will let you see what it look like.

I agree - the furniture vendors need a 'preview' feature. The little icons next to their names are not sufficient enough in order to make an educated purchase in combination with the exorbitant pricing for many of these items makes me less inclined to purchase anything given the current system.

The Crown Store shows previews for personalities, mounts, clothing, haircuts and facial hair, but nothing for furniture? This is a huge oversight that I hope gets corrected soon in a future update.

If you go into the 'place' tab in your property (usually the R button) you can select along the top the crown store button. This will let you look at a lot of the individual pieces for sell in the crown store. You click on it once to preview the item (double click to buy). I thought you could do the same thing at vendors, but I might be remembering that wrongly.

There is also a preview button when you are in the crafting menu, I think the default is T to preview.

These probably don't solve all the problems that one might need a preview option for, but figured I'd throw them out in case anyone hadn't noticed it yet.

If you have the recipe, you can preview an item before crafting it - just not at vendors yet.
