This test server thread has some similar issues. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/3697242 My computer has the latest Microsoft visual, but my error seems to be slightly different. It says: api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing after I click the PLAY button. I've already done repair.

You may want to confirm in your post that you've checked and completed all the steps here: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37280 (even though the DLL is slightly different)

Then send in a ticket to support, and add the ticket # to your forum post so maybe a Zos employee will ensure it's looked after promptly and directed to the right person.

Also may want to include what windows version you running.

Neither am I, I'm just leaving windows update running overnight pulling down anything that was sat in optional, then I'll go from there. Other people are having this issue too though with fully updated windows so I'm not holding my breath. I'll see what happens in the morning and go from there.

I tried to make sure my windows 7 was updated, and apparently it really wasn't. I had to do the initial fixes here to get my updater to even work right: http://plugable.com/2016/06/08/windows-7-wont-update-what-to-do/

And poof! I could play again after all the updates. ;)

Hmm this is interesting, I'm also windows 7 and I thought mine wasn't updating, after some searching I found a conversation about it sometimes taking 8-12 hours to install updates, so I thought I'd just leave it overnight, but was yours just sitting on 0%? Mine still is but I think it's just not displaying properly... but if you were having the same problem...

Yes! The link I provided helps with some manual updates that will eventually make your updater work instead of being stuck at O%. You really have to do everything up to step 11, and the updater will do the rest. After step 11, the updater should only check for updates no longer than 15 mins or so.

Just a warning tho, I've done these updates on two different windows 7 computers, and the update that is listed as "January 2017 Rollup" messed up the hard drive on one of my computers where I had to do a repair. If you want to game right away, I'd postpone that particular update just to be safe.

Thank you! I'll see what it's done/doing in the morning, if I've had no luck I'll give this a shot! I did stop it previously when I thought it wasn't doing anything and I noticed that a few installed updates had today's date, so something was clearly happening.

    Windows 7 x64.

12 HOURS! I spent 12 hours researching and trying to figure out what is going on! I even downloaded reimage software to fix the issue ( 40 bucks!).

    4 repair cycles. nothing
Currently reinstalling THE ENTIRE GAME. 3 hours in. Still at 9%.

Edit: Roll up update for windows 7 fixed my problem though I had to do it through command prompt due to my windows update being broken. Yay.

Worked before, but my Windows 7 updater is broken and no fixes online seem to sort it.
This patch seems to require an update to work, or at least that's what community people here are saying.
Wasn't expecting to have to format to play the game, but hey ***.
I can't even install vc redists without getting an error, though they're listed as installed.
    FML.

There was a really bad update or two for windows 7 that screwed my system.
Chose to update at the wrong time or something, it was warned a couple of days later not to install the updates, but yeah.
Never recovered and probably made it worse trying to fix it.

Not tried an install/upgrade in place thing.

    Guess that's next.

If your updater is working fine I'd be interested to know if their official response regarding the updates they recommend, helped.

OMG you're joking? I've been avoiding win10 like the plague, what a nightmare! My connection dropped overnight, although it looks like it did 5 of the updates before my connection died even though it still read 0%, I rebooted, set it off again and went back to bed. I'm going to try a couple of things before work. I'm actually quite scared now.. and angry, again.

@Jenadara Ok, I followed SOME of the steps in your link, I wanted to see if I could figure out which was the required update to get this to work and SUCCESS! It seems step 4 the convenience rollup sorted it for me, I have tears in my eyes. Hopefully this will help others with the same issue we had!

Been experiencing the same issue of not having my launcher even pop up to play the game on my PC windows 8. I was able to get the update in but as soon as I hit play game there was an instant crash over and over and over and now my launcher isn't even opening at all. I've literally tried absolutely everything there is to do for repairing and fixing the system, I've updated everything too as well. I have also changed the properties through steam for my game and yet all those changes did not work either and now i'm forced to uninstall my game just to reinstall it for my last option. Now i'm having friends of my text me or message me through steam saying that doesn't even work. I've been at it for right now 2 days and the reinstall failed as well and not even running as an administrator will work i've already tried. ZOS i'm getting really tired of these issues and i want to know how to fix it because trying to figure this out has been a big waste of my time.

I'm having the same issue on Windows 7. Tried all their recommendations and it keeps saying updates don't apply. I give up. I am a new player, bought the game just for housing and now I can't play. No issues with any other game or application, very disappointed :(. So back to Rift I go.

what solved this problem was to uninstall ALL the microsoft C++ redist (2005,2008,2010,2012 both x86 & x64).
Then google for microsoft C++ 2015 redist x64 download and install.

Strange, because i uninstalled all Microsoft C++ , net framework, java... restarted computer and installed ALL IN One Runtimes which have everything in one package...
    Restarted again after that ...
    And...
    NOTHING!!!
Still the same damn error api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll...
Win Updates all done, win updater works fine....

I've got the exact same issue, and not a damn thing I've tried has worked. I reinstalled this game to play the housing update... and can't play it. Reinstalled the game three times, repaired, uninstalled and reinstalled all of the Visual C++ on my computer, repaired, and updated windows. Not a single thing has worked. And it is only ESO that refuses to work, all of my other games still work just fine.

So, please, ZOS, can we get some input on this and fix whatever you tweaked in the housing update to cause this problem?

http://plugable.com/2016/06/08/windows-7-wont-update-what-to-do/ This is the fix that I did on 2 of my Windows 7 computers up to step 11 to get my windows updater working again. Like I mentioned before, I did skip the last January 2017 rollup update because it affected my hard drive on the first comp where I had to do a repair.

Also, I'd like to add that if you are having issues applying updates, and you have a lot of them; start with a few at a time (oldest to newest).

I don't know if this can help, but I solved the problem by de-activating virtualization in the bios. I could then reinstall vcredist without any issue.
