Found an item on Kari's Hit List... now what?

So, yesterday, I finally buckled and started the Thieves Guild DLC (late to the party, I know). Basically, I did enough to get me to the den and that's about it.
Then, today, I was looting Daggerfall castle when I came across a very pretty chest holding a very pretty gold item labeled as a relic. In the description, it specified that this item was on Kari's Hit List, and that I should bring it to the Thieves Den.
As I said, I've only just started the Thieves Guild. I've met Kari, so I assume this is something available through her later, but talking to her now only evokes the same "New to the guild?" dialogue.
Is there anything I can do with this item right now? I can't launder it, so if I get caught running my daily pickpocket rounds, it's gone. A bit alarming, as I farm my thief for gold, and, hey, mistakes do happen.
So, any of you more experienced thieves know if there's anything I can do? Thanks in advance!

That's also where you find her hitlist.
It's the same principle as the museum pieces in Orsinium. Acquire items, place them on their tables ...

✭✭✭✭✭Some of those items are hard to nick, some are not. With the harder ones, don't despair, it will be replaced at the spot if you take and then a guard takes it back from you.
I will give you one hint,the one in Malabal Tor is very hard to steal. There is a trick, that involves a light fixture, but you will have to figure out the rest.Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

✭✭✭✭✭It may not be on the table, there's a trophy spot somewhere on the upper level where it goes. On the floor, on the bookshelves, etc. I think I usually just ran all over up there and hoped my cursor went over the spot and prompted me to put it there.
